Wow. Okay, let's comment on all of these.

I see the Rising Kuuga trio in the distance. One wonders if these will be regular exclusives, or some kind of uber-rare exclusive. If it's the latter, BanDai is NOT playing it's cards right.

Gills Raider and Guard Chaser. Not too much of a surprise. Just slap on a new coat of paint on that baby, and sell it for twice what it was originally worth. I still have the old Agito versions of these bikes. I am still very happy with my original Machine Tornader. But will I get these new bikes..?? MAYBE the Guard Chaser, since it looks new enough, and would probably come with some custom attachments, and pray, some WORKING lights! The original's front wheels did not "turn" (steer). The picture looks like it may have been fixed (it's a new part, I'm positive). Raider looks great in the metallic finish!! But I think I'd still be happy with my original, even if the wheels turn, which aso looks to be a new part (including the kickstand, just like M.Tornader).

REALLY looking forward to G3-X, which was one of my favorite "Riders", I loved the police motief, and the ammount of accessories he came with. G3 as well. G3 Mild would be one exlcusive I would most certainly do okay without.

Kuuga's TryChaser 2000 with Battle Gouram to form the TryGouram. I still have my originals, so this is also a sure pass. Looking at the pic, it looks to be very similar to the original, right down to the oversized kick stand. Though with that Gouram attached, who can blame them? I did notice some small changes, like most of the die-cast parts being painted a different color. Maybe that means it's plastic now?

The blurred out photo is of W's bike!! Awesome!!

With all these "new" bikes being made, it makes me wonder if BanDai will really put the RIDER back in Kamen RIDER. Make me a decent Blue Spader with the rest of the Blade gang, a kick-ass AutoVajin, followed by a --dare I say it?-- Side Basshar, and I'll gladly give you my money.

Geez, even a Den Bird would be nice.

Even Riotroopers and Gyro Attacker? No? Must be asking for too much now...

BTW, what ever happened to the SHF Showa Riders we saw several months ago? No word on them at all.

This year now has my expectations way up.

W JokerJoker and W CycloneCyclone. No surprise here. BanDai will make a killing with these; they're nearly identicle.

Look! It's SHF Growing Form Kuuga!! Yay!

The paint job on the Hard Boiler is awful. Prototype, has to be.

Can't believe Kamen Rider Accel is already a Figuarts. "Kiva" year they started out slow, "Decade" year was decent, but this year they are picking up the pace. I just hope quality control is atthe top of their to-do list. No more crappy paint jobs like on Caucasus.

Default figma Kamen Rider Dragon Knight

Does this belong on a whole new thread..?? Maybe! I'll let you make the call. In any case, I LOVE figmas, and these figures of Wing Knight and Dragon Knight are AWESOME! If they make the other Riders, I'll probably die of delirium!

The show may have sucked, but some good things are coming out of it for sure!

Man...so many similarities, yet they are completely different. Buckle up, this is gonna be a long one.

For one, the maker is different. Figuarts is BanDai, while figma is by Good Smile Company, a company that was known more for their high-quality statues rather than figures. They're relatively new to the arena, this year marking their 100th figma made, with such notable accomplishments as the Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star, and Nanoha series figures. (Search ACTAR in YouTube, and find his Yuki Nagato review to see his very first review on this figure).

Generally, figma's products have been about 90% female, from various anime and anime-themes, with a few "huh?!" figures, such as Billy Herrington

The exceeding point of figma seems to be a high level of both quality, accuracy, and articulation thanks to a mixture of plastic types (hard PVC and soft rubber) and well-hidden joints to give a very visually appealing figure. In my opinion, most of the figures they produced, they did an awesome job at capturing the character they set to replicate. Figmas are like high-quality mini statues that have articulation. Most figma joints are the same in every figure, with some exceptions here and there. They are removable, and just tight enough. All figures come with a base, stand, and baggie to keep all your figures' goodies organised. I find the figures overall paint job to be pretty clean (though usually sparse). All of the figmas', where appropriate, are given a coat of what seems like a flat/matte finish, eliminating glossy shine and that cheap plastic look. Most of the female characters are even supporting some little rubber panties under their flexible rubbery skirt. Talk about detail! ...No, there is not GREATER detail under that, perv. ...Huh? ...How do I know that...?? None of your business!!

Of course, BanDai thought they could enter this arena as well. Their first official entry was 19yo Hana from the Den-O series. Feedback has been overall disappointing. Stiff, limited movement, too anime-ish look, little "moe" appeal, ugly joints, and cheap, plasticy appearance are all comments that pepper both blogs and reviews. Since then, we've seen some more female figures pop up, such as the gaining-in-popularity PreCure figures. Overall, the narrative is pretty clear: while BanDai was great at ACTION figures, they did not fare so well when it came to capturing the essence of replicating female characters.

That's not to say figma hasn't had some problems. Figma are smaller than SHF, and their accessories are sculpted small as well. And with small plastic comes fragile parts. Many reports of broken parts became an issue. From tiny ball joints (attached to ponytails or twin tails), to ahoge, you will see problems. The changing of wrists, while they never broke off, where incredibly weak joints, and still flop around in the socket. I've personally sliced myself on the sharp, hard PVC plastic anime "hair" on the figures. You may have some problems getting your figure to stand without the base/stand. Figmas have no metal parts, with the acception of some screws, or bendy wire.

So where does SHF stack up? Well, they seem to be more durable, with less history of breakage. Their joints are sometimes a mixed bag, getting some weak, some too tight. They've gone from ball joint legs with swivel crotches to outward/forward-backward crotches-- both nice, with minor flaws. Accessories are usually dismal. I can't think of another figure who had more than 3 accessories, exlcuding hands (and papercraft!), though I will say that SHF do hold their accessories better than figma. Quality is there, but there is little individuality (for instance, almost every Figuarts of the Kabuto line has about 50% of the exact same parts, in some cases, 90%), so detailed accuracy is questionable. The paint job on Figuarts is decent, with better detail when needed, however there is NO topcoat to add realism or "texture" unless the color changes. No one can argue that a stand & base is always welcomed with a figure, and SHF rarily has a stand & base. Then there's cost. SHF are generally 10~30% cheaper than a Figma, despite the box of a figma being bigger, yet seemingly emptier.

Overall, what's the bottom line? I'd sum it up like this:

Figuarts are quality action figures, aimed at all ages for moderate play, and to sometimes pose them on a shelf in action/battle poses.
Figma are high quality figures, aimed at mature collectors for light play, and to regularly pose on a shelf or take pictures of them doing cute things.
