HONG KONG - Who is the "iPhone Girl"?

Pictures of an Asian factory worker found on a new iPhone sold to a British customer have generated keen discussion on the Internet about her identity _ and her fate.

The three pictures, posted on the Apple discussion Web site MacRumors.com, show a young Asian woman working on what appears to be an assembly line for iPhones.

Dressed in a pink striped outfit and hat and wearing white gloves with yellow fingertips, the young woman now known on the Web as the "iPhone Girl" is shown smiling and making victory signs as she poses next to an iPhone.

The MacRumors.com user who posted the photos last week, identified as only "markm49uk" from Kingston-upon-Hull, England, said in a posting that one of the pictures showed up on a new 3G iPhone when the iTunes program was launched.

"It would appear that someone on the production line was having a bit of fun. Has anyone else found this?" the posting said.

The posting received more than 360 responses on MacRumors.com, with readers commenting and speculating about the woman's age, looks and working conditions _ and whether the pictures had gotten her into trouble with her managers.

"She is so fired," a reader identified as "PredatoryWasp86" said.

"That's nice that at least they have some fun in the drab of assembling technology," another reader, "BrownManUPS," said.

"She looks about 12 or 13 to me! I don't think Stevo is going to be impressed at all. It looks a little bit too much like child labor," "sibruk" wrote, referring to Apple Inc. Chief Executive Steve Jobs.

News reports say the woman may work at a factory run by an Apple contractor, Taiwan-based Foxconn Technology Group, in the southern Chinese boomtown of Shenzhen.

Calls to Foxconn spokesman Edmund Ding went unanswered Wednesday. Ding also didn't immediately respond to an e-mail from The Associated Press seeking comment.

But the South China Morning Post on Wednesday quoted another Foxconn spokesman, Liu Kun, as confirming that the young woman in the pictures works for Foxconn.

Liu said workers testing the device took the pictures and may have forgotten to delete them, the Post reported.

Dubbing the mystery worker "China's prettiest factory girl," China's Southern Metropolitan Daily on Tuesday quoted an unidentified Foxconn official as saying the woman was not fired.

Apple publicist Jill Tan said the company had no comment.

Now the topic is related to who is the gal shown in the pics, not asking them to further tracking down whether she is underage or not....

For such cases, I would comment that did he/she had the evidence to prove that she is 12 or 13?? That was based on their gueesing from the pics. I've been seeing this kind of faces everywhere in my working place. For my surprising, they are not underage actually :|

But hack care lah, I'm not interested with the child labour issue at all just wanted to see the rest of the pics of her out of curiosity :whistling

Sometimes people really like to find troubles and questionings with unrelated topics... If they are interested to know whether she is underage, ask them to write or emails to the relevent appropriate channels instead of discussing in the web site :|

I wonder if Apple will question its China manufactoring/assemable plant for a possible beach of security as the camera was shot in a pretty sensitive area.

Thats why i think internet media is a two-edged sword having its pros and cons.

Personally i feel its digusting that ppl are more interested in those lame street news abt the gal probably out of her cuteness, and not think on the bigger scale. The child labour. Its really a serious problem if its true coz Steve Jobs will want to ensure his mgmt in china do something abt it.
Child labour is not some small matter if China wants to be a big boy in the market now.

Child labour issue happen everywhere in the worldwide. I can even see kids helping out their parents to run the shop or serving food to the customers etc... even in our own country :|

Can I consider that as labour issues as well?? If no, shouldn't it applies to everyone even though that is yr own kid??

I even start my first job in my age of 13 last time ;)

It's too common to be seen everywhere here and there.

And now this topic is talking about apple. Why people still involving oranges or bananas?? You get the ideas here?? Yes, I agree with you there is a pros and cons for the media reviewing their news.

I would rather prefer Steve to settle with this issue privately to the management in China. Rather than leaking out news to the media and everyone gonna interfere by adding more salts to the wound. And it's not us to decide what the management gonna settle this issue.

Just like a family problem, you settle by cleaning your own butt rather than asking 3rd or 4th parties to clean it for you wasn't it???

And again, I would like to point out do they have any evidence showing that this operator was really underage?? From the article itself, Steve claims that the gal looks like around 12 or 13 yrs old.

If you telling me that this gal is confirmed a child and is below 10 yrs old. I have no other words to say. And there is no further updating of news proving this gal's age at all [-X

And I don't see there is a need to further carry on debating this child labour issue which everyone trying to debate about elsewhere :| Simply useless and meaningless imo :|

If people have so much time to interfere somebody else business, pls go and find more constructives things or do some voluntary works better.

I would rather discuss on how the iphone management going to settle or handle about these pics flowing out to customer side instead.

One question. Why is the girl considered a child? Just because she might have the "baby-face"?
