Hong Kong Seizes Hundreds of Racy Photos

HONG KONG - Hong Kong police seized hundreds of pictures in connection to a series of racy photos posted on the Internet that appear to depict partially nude local celebrities.

The management company of one of the stars Gillian Chung _ a member of the popular female duo Twins _ has said the photos were doctored.

The scandal over the photos has dominated headlines in Hong Kong the past week. The pictures appear to show actor Edison Chen, actress Cecilia Cheung and Chung partially nude or in sexually suggestive poses.

Police arrested six more people _ four men and two women _ late Friday and Saturday on suspicion of violating obscene material laws, assistant police commissioner Wong Fook-chuen said late Saturday.

Officers also seized computers and discs that contained hundreds of pictures, including some that have never been circulated on the Internet.

Wong said police "were very close" to arresting the sources of the photos.

The suspects arrested so far have not been charged and were being detained for further investigation, a police spokesman said Sunday, declining to be named citing internal policy.

Last week, police arrested and charged a 29-year-old unemployed man with publishing obscene material related to the case.

The stars have not directly commented on the photos, but have issued statements either through lawyers or management companies condemning their release.

Gillian Chung official statement on sex photos scandal

The Twins fan event started at 1pm as they had a fan gathering with 100 over fans playing all sorts of games and having fun. The press conference started at 2.15pm and Gillian is now reading her statement and was reportedly wearing a smiling face as she took to the stage to read her statement. The scene was pretty chaotic with more than 100 media personnel trying to get the best spot.

With her innocent Twins band mate Charlene Choi sitting by her side, Gillian read her statement which lasted just one minute.

The scandal has been a great deal of hurt for me and the people around me. I was naive and foolish in the past (admitting to it indirectly) but I am already a grown-up now. I would like to thank my manager, company, family and friends for their support. I’m sorry for the trouble that it has caused to the society. I will work even harder and bravely face up to my life in future. I also thank the media for their concern and fans for their unwavering support.

She didn’t look sad as she read her statement and wore a smile on her face. Her fans in the background cheered in unison, “Support You! Support You!”

'Edison Chen Back In Hong Kong This Week'

Edison Chen (陳冠希), the only male celebrity to be implicated by the sex photos scandal, will return to Hong Kong to face the media this week, his management confirmed today.

Ms Leung, of East Asia Music, said that Edison will arrive back in Hong Kong on Thursday or Friday. She denied that he had left the country to avoid the fallout.

Anthony Wong (黃秋生), Edison's godfather, said that Edison will return to Hong Kong soon to help the police catch the "crazy man" who is leaking the sex photos. He said that Edison did not run away and had, long before the scandal started, planned to return to Canada to visit family for Chinese New Year and then to go to America to visit girlfriend Vincy Yeung (楊永晴).

Some Hong Kong newspapers had reported that Edison had fled the city in shame, when he left Hong Kong after news of the scandal broke two weeks ago. The star released a video message last Monday.

Meanwhile, while attending a Chinese New Year dinner for his father's company this evening, Jaycee Chan (房祖名) said that he had chatted to Edison on MSN. He said that he could sense Edison's unhappiness, even though he could not hear Edison's voice. He said he hopes everybody will treat Edison with an open mind when Edison returns.

Jaycee also said he had sent an SMS to Gillian Chung (鍾欣桐), one of the female celebrities publicly embarrassed by the scandal, to express his support. He said she did not reply, but added that it was probably because she is still in a state of confusion. He said that he has not called her yet, because he is afraid to bother her before she is ready. Last November, in an interview with Squat, batgwa.com's supplement pages, Jaycee confirmed that he had dated Gillian.

Today, Gillian made her first public appearance since the scandal started. Meanwhile, Ming Pao, a Hong Kong newspaper, reported that negotiations for Gillian's pop duo, Twins, to endorse a toothpaste company in mainland China for HK$4 million have fallen through as a result of the scandal.
