For Saint Seiya fans - I'd like to intro an IMO very underrated anime known as Tenkuu Senki Shulato (天空战记Shulato).

While SS draws on Greek mythology, Shulato (or Shurato) draws on Vedic/Hindu/Buddhist mythology. It also features body armour that transform into animal-themed hovercraft.

The anime itself (by Tatsunoko, the Gatchaman fellas) is not too long, not too short - a comfortable 38 eps - and it's a self-contained story that's not as draggy as the SS ones tend to be. More action and fighting too, as well as interesting plot developments near the end. There are 8 main armoured characters slugging it out to rescue a goddess in distress (sounds familiar to SS fans already hor LOL).

There's a pretty comprehensive fansite here http://www.tenkuukai.com/index.html. The rights to this line are held by TakTomy if I am not wrong, and I wish they would come out something like the Myth Cloth series - I would buy em all in a flash!

I've watch this series many years ago before SS and its not bad. Even the bad guys have insect theme armor. Not to be pass, i wish they have more then 38 episode. Also a 3 episode OVA was release after the series.

One thing I like is that even the "low-level" baddies are not pushovers, and put up a good fight (at least until the end of the episode!).

I used to be very happy whenever A-Club ran a feature on this anime and would spend hours trying to decipher the Chinese :p

I got to know about this anime long ago but never have a chance to watch it. This is another classic anime too.

OT - There is a similar anime which named as samurai troopers(if I'm not wrong  ) There are 5 samurais with their bulky armors which uses the 5 elements as their power. The main character summons fire with his 2 samurai swords, while the rest will be earth, water, wind, lightning with different weapons etc... Oh yeah, not to forget that there is a white tiger who able to transform as well.

Used to watch these during my sec school days :D The last episode are the best chapter as the 5 main characters as well as the 5 badies co-operate and fight against the final boss. It was awesome :hello:

LOL now still got A-Club meh? Leslie probably somewhere around my age :P

yeah, i watched these 2 anime too, and both iirc were shown on local tv. recently (last yr), re-watched Shurato and the OVA so still abit fresh in my mind, but Samurai Troopers can't remember much except some of the main characters.

its a pity somewhere around the middle of the Shurato series, the company had financial problems and the animation quality really very crappy. and i suppose they also cut out alot on the story, because there's obviously alot more to it. Many of the planned characters did not appear.

would like to have "Myth Cloth" for the characters of these 2 series!!

Yayayaya, the difference is super obvious ... wah lau some episodes totally cannot make it man, the animation and drawing all. Sad sia.

Yayayaya ... but there seems to be very little merchandise for Shulato. Dunno what la Tatsunoko is doing, or whether they even still have the rights. If so they should just licence out and let some established toy company produce stuff (Bandai are you listening?).

aiyo why declare ur age here... i'm involved leh :S :P

Tatsunoko very pattern one lah. just like their mospeada products, dunno why they hold on to the license so much that we don't see many (until recently). even so, the invids mecha were not licensed... zzz

I'm not sure about Shurato's but I believe there's plenty for Samurai Troopers though ... might not be a new series of toys perhaps, but there are a cloth figure collectibles for Samurai Troopers, it was a big boom when I was a kid here in SE Asia ...

yah, i think even Shurato have plastic models iirc?

but i dont think these old stuff are good in proportion. just like those Saint Seiya older figures with huge hands, those may be vintage but personally didn't like them when i was a kid. Myth Cloth is really a huge difference compared with these vintage stuff, so i hope for a much more better proportioned figure for both these series.

on the other hand, if anybody has any pics of these old stuff, pls share ok? :supz:
