Here are some general information that may be useful if you are new to forums.

Profile
Information entered will be visible to all members, so keep private on your settings if you are uncomfortable.

Avatars
Avatars are small images that appear on your profile when viewing topics. Please keep the file size small (120 x 120 pixels, 15KB) as anything bigger will be rejected by the system.

Signatures
Signatures will appear after every message if it is enabled for that post. See this post for a more detailed explanation. Linking to other sites is ok, provided it does not violate Hobbyhype’s community standards.

Private Messaging
This is mostly referred to as PM. Every registered member will have a certain amount of private messages where you can send or receive from fellow members on private issues. There is a limit on the amount, so remember to clear your messages before it is full.

1) Newly registered: No PM

2) After 14 days and min 20 posts: 20 PMs

3) After 21 days with min 50 posts: 50 PMs

4) After 60 days with min 1000 posts: 100 PMs, and members can send 5 PMs at one go.

Custom Title
When you are registered for at least 60 days and with a minimum post count of 1000, you will be able to change your user title (just below your username).

User Control Panel
Almost all personal settings with regards to your account can be found under the UserCP. The default settings are the most common, but do explore if you need customisation.

Post Count
If you are posting useful replies, by all means go ahead. But trying to gain respect from fellow members by spamming 500 posts a day is not encouraged.

Ranks
Based on your post count, here are the ranks of Hobbyhype.

Posts - Rank - Image

As signatures can be a disturbance for some, especially flashy and big images where download may take slightly longer, we have come up with some simple guidelines to make everyone's life easier. Please help to keep maintain your signature accordangly. Thanks!

USING IMAGES
Maximum allowable size is 500 x 200.
Maximum allowable filesize is 40kb.
Maximum number of images is 3, where total size and filesize added together should not exceed the limit.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/hobbyhype/forum/signature_limit.gif

USING TEXT
The maximum font size allowed in signature lines is 3.
The maximum number of characters is 500.
Signature text should comply with our regular posting rules.
Signature text that include overly creative use of punctuation, color, etc. which make the signature too flashy may be removed.

Steps to do an automatic check, go to:

UserCP > Signatures > Save Signature

If nothng happens, than your sig is ok, but if the system prompts that it does not pass the test, it will explain why and necessary changes have to be done.

To kick off your first post, it will be very useful to do that in the Member’s Introduction (http://forums.hobbyhype.com/showthread.php?t=105) thread. You can read through what others have posted and proceed to post an informal introduction. That is always the best way to let everyone know that you are here.

You may than check out the Hobbyhype Café (http://forums.hobbyhype.com/forumdisplay.php?f=9)where general topics are discussed and get to know some of the members here. Thereafter, you can navigate the forums and get familiarize with the categories.

With 1000 posts and at least 60 days of registration, you will be upgraded to Senior Member status and the following changes will take effect:

Private Messages (PM) – Increase from 50 to 100

Check that you have the WYSIWYG editor enabled by doing this:

Custom User Title is only available for members who have more than 1000 posts and minimum 60 days of registration. To change your user title, do this:

UserCP > Edit Profile > Custom User Title

Type in the new title and save. The title can be changed as many times as possible without informing any of the Moderators. If the change did not take effect, just log out and log in again.

You can only edit the title if you are the thread starter. To do that, you can do this:

Click on Edit button on the first post of the thread -> Go Advanced -> Change Title -> Save

If you are a new user to this forum or if you find attaching pictures in message very 麻烦, then you should read this:

For linking images from your own account:

1. Go to a image hosting site and create an account. You can try http://www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com/) as it is quite popular.

2. Enter your account and choose to upload images using single upload or multiple uploads.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/hobbyhype/forum/posting2.jpg

4. Go back to your text box in HobbyHype Forum, click the attach picture icon or paste the link with the "IMG" tags on the message box directly.

5. Whoalah!!! there u go! You now have the picture in your message.

For linking images from other websites:

[if you are using Internet Explorer:]

2. In the property dialogue box, copy picture's address (URL)

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/hobbyhype/forum/posting3.jpg

3. Carry on with steps 4 and 5 above.

[If you are using Mozilla Firefox:]

For all images that are within Quotes, they will be displayed as hyperlinks instead of the image itself so that loading time can be reduced. If you would like to know the image quoted, please click on the image and it will be displayed in another browser window.

Apart from this, of course we hope that members can "pick and quote" if the original post is very long, instead of quoting the entire post. This way, other members need not scroll too much as a quoted post will also have a link back to the original post (by clicking the icon beside the member's name).

As far as possible, we would have warnings on a thread title if it is too image intensive, but here is an option you can do so that only text will be displayed.

UserCP -> Edit Options -> Thread Display Options -> Visible Post Elements -> Uncheck them -> Save

While we aim to make Hobbyhype a lively place for all members, moderators and administrators may at times be stern on certain posts that violate the guidelines or may lead to violation.

Decision made by anyone from the moderating team will be fair and final. Do understand that all of us here have a job to do to keep the forum going, and tough decisions will definately be run through by the team before meted out.

We do not support mod bashing, and does not act based on personal feelings towards any member. Do give us your full cooperation.
