Guess some of u guys received e notice as well.
Wondering where would they be moving to, and also, the real reason y weiye is relinquishing his part in e buisness.
I suppose rental is too high in that area... it's tough to be businessman, really... if u sell at the low price to compete with the tenants in CSC, u need to sell a lot to sustain the business... on the other hand, if u price at a high price, u risk losing customers...

Operate at 'happening' locations rent too high, operate at not so 'happening' locations no crowd, very difficult.:(
to add to their prob, they operate at a "remote" corner of a "happening" place... b4 I know of Urban Attic, I'd never been to the 5th level of Funan centre
PS: maybe, 5th level rental is cheaper, who knows?
they were doin well when selling anime DVD... but after odex comes in... then [-X
Will there be a closing down sale???
they emailed the members recently, they r not closing down, they r moving, but dunno where yet.

But now i wonder where they are moving to now? I heard that they have gotten into a load shit of debt. And Weiye will not be in UA anymore. How will they still be able to continue their biz operations?
Alright they have moved to Sunshine plaza. Not opened yet.

I think should be the mytoybox shop at sunshine plaza there. UA and mytoybox seem to be good friends with each other from what i have read on other forums.

I heard that the owner got into trouble and went to jail? For what I do not know...
The person u r refering to is no longer part of the share in that shop. So let's concentrate on Urban Attic, and hope Urban Attic open soon. :D

my friend paid a deposit of about $200 for a statue @ Urban Attic just before it closed. Now he's got nothing, no statue, no refund and no news of where the owner is.

$200 for a deposit? If the statue costs nearly 1K then its ok but most statues won't cost more than $500 and the avg cost being $250
Paying $200 as a deposit is simply asking to be robbed

[-X I had asked the price of those porcelain (that's wht Weiye said they're made of) b4, the cheapeat being $700+, and most of 'em are over $1k

WoW
And i thought US statues are already expensive..
But Porcelain for commercial/collectible statues don't seem logical as the cost of making one would be higher.
Nowadays cold casted statued made from polystone (or something like marble) cost less to make.
I'm not questioning the quality but with cheaper alternatives of casting with the same quality of sculpting and paintwork are a logical way to go.
I mean ultimately you are buying the character and not porcelain.
In any case them closing up abruptly without refunding customers of their deposits and not fufilling orders shows how delicate the market is for such statues.

Urban Attic open soon? I not sure if they have refunded all their customers their money yet. I heard that the toy shop beside it has also closed down also. Is this true?

Not sure abit the other toy shop, but wouldn't it be nice if all the toy shops cluster @ CSC?
Most of the toyshop at CSC are almost the same. Toys are the same, just the price are slightly different. I used to go flea market almost every weekend at Clarke Quay, now i only go to CSC once a month or when i need to find some toys. The point is, the toy shops are becoming the same so it's becoming boring to me, except one designer toy shop at CSC.

Indeed. It is only right that Urban Attic refund all of them. The customers are dealing with Urban Attic and not the fella that left.
I suggest that people who can't get their money back to report them to CASE.

Agreed. Variety is really lacking there. At least the shops at Sunshine Plaza each have their own speciality.

but really hope UA can reopen...at least most of the figure they sell did not sell in csc...but the price really damn high...for 1 cold casted Yamamoto Isoroku cosst 800+...wah...it give me a shock...even much more expensive then the model kit painting shop price...
Mayb this is 1 of the reason it close down...
Ya. They wanted to be different. but sometimes different can be a risk. there are good and bad points. Hope we hear from UA soon.

UA's sales strategy is to sell figures and items that are not common sold locally. Based on this strategy, they put high price tags on such rare items as they so called claimed to be.
There was once when i paid $150 for a PVC figure which they told me that it's sort of rare, but when i went to Sunshine Plaza, i saw the same PVC figure selling for only $110. I feel like a big robert "lo po" then. :(

yeah, gotta take their words with a big pinch of salt... I saw 2 batmobiles in their shop, they quote me $100+ and $200+ (after discount)... I bought 1 in Taka (sales), the other one from Ebay, total cost < $100... he tried to pull off the "rare" trick on me too, luckily, I didn't blink :)

it was very nicely done... I didn't know the market price for batmobile... so, when he quoted me $200+ for the one in Matte finish, I didn't suspect anything... but after I'd found a cheap one in Taka sales the next day, I'd decided to go on EBay to check how much one of these would actually cost... luckily, I did :)

Bro, I tink I m 1 of the victim as well...I buy a Koyori that 1:4 PVC from there..they quote me 300+...i was deciding not to buy it cos is too xpensive...but they say...rare item...cant find in anywher in sg...
Haiz...at e end i buy it...now i saw csc 1 shop is sellin it 200+ only...although the difference not much...but i not happy abt the words "rare item"
sometimes i rather not ask the price or go see price of the figurines or toys i have, cuz sometimes can make me puke blood. i think it's a lesson we all need to learn from.

This Koyori which u have bought is a lying down pose rite? with tailsman stickers sticking on her body? This is quite a heavy figure. He quoted me $240 for it last time. He told u that it's the only one left then?

Bigbert is right. The one at Sunshine Plaza is My Toy Box.
address: #01-36 Sunshine Plaza Mall. 91 Bencoolen Street. Sry for the previous post to cause confusion due to the labels in the shop they label UA, i guess UA is supplying to My Toy Box now then.

My Toy Box sells their stuff at high prices also. This may be reason why they are good frds with UA. I only went into the shop once v long time ago. You can look at their stuff and prices at www.mytoybox.com.sg.

This is their fav tactic. He will always tell u that it's only 1 piece left. But in fact he can still order more stock in case really 1 piece left. So when we hear that it's 1 piece left, we will feel very "itchy". Cannot tahan. Then we become "robert" and pay high prices for the figures.
I am not opposing to this sales strategy. This is UA's way of doing biz. End consumers have to feel good and comfortable with the stuff they are buying and the prices to pay for. But prob comes when we buy the so called "ultimate last piece" for a high price and find out that there are still stock of this "last piece" being sold elsewhere at a low price. This is the part which we end consumers hate about. It's like a feeling of being cheated. Shop owners need to be honest and sincere to their customers. With this shop owner to customer rapport being built up, customers will then keep coming back to their shops. Angel heart, i can understand v well how u feel. We have to take this as a lesson learnt. I was too impulsive when i buy my "ultimate last piece" back then. My fault also. Cannot be too rash when buying high price tagged stuff.
Shit happened. Lesson learnt.
Anyway, UA is run by a group of people, so let's not use singular term here. He is the person who we see the most when we go to UA, but it is not him who cause the closing down of UA. The fact that most of people know him because he is the one doin everything in UA. I rarely see his partners around, if around they are quiet or playing games behind the counter. I am just being neutral. :salute:

Ya, he's the person doing almost all the work and sales for UA. He spent lots of effort talking to customers and clinching sales daily. I feel that he's a talented and hardworking guy. I admire him.
But UA's sales strategy maybe cannot work after all. A customer will never come back to a shop if he realizes that he has become "robert". Unless he dun mind being one due to some reason. For eg, to get some very rare items which can only be gotten from that particular shop.
