Stronger than ever, accompanied by his monstrous Warbound gladiator allies, and possessed by the fiercest and purest rage imaginable, the Hulk may just tear this stupid planet in half. Planet Hulk
In the 2006 storyline "Planet Hulk" by Greg Pak, after the Hulk destroys much of Las Vegas, a secret group of superheroes called the Illuminati trap the Hulk and rocket him into space to live a peaceful existence on a planet uninhabited by intelligent life. After a trajectory malfunction, the Hulk travels through a wormhole and crashes on the violent planet Sakaar. Weakened by his journey through the wormhole, the Hulk is sold as a slave. In a gladiatorial arena, he makes a deadly enemy when he scars the emperor's face. The Hulk overcomes great odds to become a gladiator, a rebel leader and eventually a king. Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada announced in 2006 that beginning with May 2007 comics, the Hulk will be the focus of the Marvel crossover event World War Hulk.

This May, the road to war begins in World War Hulk Prologue: World Breaker, as the Hulk begins the long journey to revenge. Written by classic Hulk scribe Peter David and featuring the art of Al Rio, Lee Weeks & Sean Phillips, World War Hulk Prologue: World Breaker brings you up to speed on the Hulk’s recent journey and provides the perfect jumping-on point for readers new and old, who will get a rare glimpse into the psyche of the jade giant.
Months ago, the Illuminati sent Hulk into space, hoping the monster would find peace on another world, leading to the now classic Planet Hulk storyline. Hulk landed on Sakaar, and now through a series of tragic events, the Hulk is back…and he isn’t just going to smash—he’s going to destroy!
In the wake of Civil War, the MU is already in enough chaos as it is, but it’s one boy named Amadeus Cho whose actions may take things to the next level. In Hulk #106, Cho prepares for the Hulk’s arrival by gathering a group of super heroes to side with the Hulk in the coming war. Who will join with the Hulk and who will fight him?
Stephen Gerding, of Kung Fu Rodeo, couldn’t stop raving about Planet Hulk, the best selling epic tale of which every issue sold out and which leads into World War Hulk. “We’ve been treated to a Hulk-as-Conan storyline that writer Greg Pak has made into the most interesting time in the Jade Giant’s life since Peter David left the book,” said Gerding. “Combine the writing with stronger than I’d expected art and amazing covers from Ladronn ... and you have the biggest surprise from Marvel in years.”
With the Planet Hulk HC collection arriving in June to coincide with World War Hulk roaring into the summer, Marvel urges retailers to check their orders for World War Hulk, as the rave reviews for Planet Hulk continue to roll in. Fans, don’t miss your first chance to join the excitement in the pages of World War Hulk Prologue: World Breaker and Hulk #106.
Note: the page count on World War Hulk Prologue: World Breaker has increased from 48 to 64 pages and will now feature an extensive sneak-peak at the World War Hulk event at no extra cost!

Marvel’s “World War Hulk” panel at Wizardworld: Philadelphia was pretty timely, given that the first issue of the World War Hulk mini-series just hit stores three days ago.
Discussing the event was World War Hulk and The Incredible Hulk scribe Greg Pak, marketing director Jim McCann, editors Tom Brevoort and C.B. Cebulski, World War Hulk: Gamma Corps writer Frank Tieri and Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada.
Pak started off with a basic introduction to Planet Hulk and World War Hulk, calling it a “smasheriffic smash fest”
Brevoort talked about the Paul Jenkins-helmed World War Hulk: Front Line, which like Civil War: Frontline, deals with peripheral issues to big events, and is seen mostly through the eyes of journalists Ben Urich and Sally Floyd. McCann said there’s a murder mystery running through the mini-series as well.
As far as the proper Incredible Hulk ongoing series, Pak briefly discussed how that series is dealing with the Hulk’s allies on Earth. Pak said that Rick Jones will meet Hulk’s insectoid sidekick from Sakaar, Miek.
Tieri informed the crowd about World War Hulk: Gamma Corps, saying that it stars General Ryker from Paul Jenkins’ “Dogs of War” arc on The Incredible Hulk, and that it asks the ques-tion on who is the real villain on the series, seeing as how the cast is comprised of people whose lives have been made worse by the Hulk.
Cebulski talked about World War Hulk: X-Men, saying that there will indeed be a Hulk/Juggernaut battle in the mini-series.
Brevoort elaborated on the Avengers: The Initiative issues that will tie-in to World War Hulk, which he said will be a real test for the young characters in that comic.
Pak talked about the Heroes for Hire tie-in, saying that the team will face off against the Brood (as seen in the controversial cover to Heroes for Hire #13).
Brevoort gave the scoop on the Iron Man tie-ins, saying that you’ll see more of Tony Stark’s frame of mind as to when he made the decision to sending Hulk into space.
The Ghost Rider tie-in was described by Pak only as “The Hulk fights Ghost Rider.”
The Irredeemable Ant-Man will also spin-off from “World War Hulk,” with Brevoort joking that Eric O’Grady was in World War Hulk #1, even if you couldn’t see him.
The first fan question was why Ghost Rider was chosen to be a part of “World War Hulk” given that the character has been mainly separate from the rest of the Marvel Universe, with Cebulski answer-ing that they have a past from The Champions and that the story is about vengeance, which Ghost Rider represents.
“Will we see Bruce Banner in World War Hulk?” Pak said that we would, and “minds will be blown.”
“Betty Ross in World War Hulk?” Pak: “I never like to spoil anything, but...no.”
A fan asked what the Sentry’s role would be in “World War Hulk,” and after some jokes, Quesada said that the Sentry plays a very important role, with Pak noting that he’s already been in the first issue.
The next question was about She-Hulk’s role in “World War Hulk,” with Pak saying that all will be revealed soon, and that Jennifer Walters fans shouldn’t miss World War Hulk #2.
A query about bringing back hard-hitting super-hero stories prompted Quesada to elucidate to the crowd that a story like “World War Hulk” was exactly what Marvel needed after a heavier, more political event like “Civil War.”
Given the buzz about the New Avengers #31 revelation, it was asked if that storyline would tie-in to “World War Hulk” at all, with Brevoort indicating not at this point.
Since The Hulk is no longer “savage,” a fan asked exactly how smart is he at this point. “He can’t do Su-doku,” Brevoort joked, with Pak adding “He’s a killer at Scrabble.” Back on point, Pak said that while the Hulk might not have the type of scientific genius that Banner has, he has a whole different type of intelli-gence in regard to cunning and strategy, which given the circumstances is equally formidable.
At this point, editor and former Your Man@Marvel Bill Rosemann (who had been sitting in the audience), joined the panel to talk about World War Hulk: Front Line, saying that he has loved the idea of looking at the Marvel Universe through the point-of-view of average people since Marvels. He said that the evacuation of New York in “World War Hulk” was being looked at as a Hurricane Katrina-type event.
Fan: The Thunderbolts involvement in “World War Hulk”? Brevoort said that they don’t really play a role, because it’s not in their mandate.
An audience member asked will “World War Hulk” lead to a public reveal of the Illuminati, and Pak said that while it’s possible, the Hulk doesn’t know that Reed Richards, Tony Stark et al act as an “illuminati” per se, just that they sent him into space.
Fan: “Does the Hulk really only want to go after the Illuminati not want New York harmed?” Pak said that’s an intentionally open question, and central to the theme of “World War Hulk - whether or not the Hulk is a hero or a monster.
What happened to the planned World War Hulk: Young Avengers tie-in, a fan asked. Brevoort said that they wanted to do it to put out more Young Avengers material, but it ultimately seemed like arbi-trarily stretching the story and although more Young Avengers books will be published, that was scrapped.
The same person asked if all the books would all ship on time, and Brevoort said there was no way he could guarantee that, but that everything looks to be in good shape at this point.
When does the new Sub-Mariner series take place in relation to “World War Hulk”? Brevoort said that anything he says would make one of the books seem “less immediate,” but they’ll be a pretty clear picture six months from now.
In another question from the crowd, it was asked if the fact that Captain America (who has provided lead-ership in other Marvel Universe events like this) is now dead will be addressed. Brevoort said his absence would be felt, but probably not that directly. The fan wondered if Iron Man would catch more heat for Cap’s absence, and Rosemann talked about Iron Man’s actions in World War Hulk #1, and said he really is a hero.
Quesada joked that at the end of “World War Hulk,” maybe two Caps would come back - red Captain America and blue Captain America.
Any chance of a Front Line ongoing series? Quesada said that they’ve definitely thought about that prospect, but ultimately decided that it should be kept as something special - though we’ll see more Front Line in the future.
This led Rosemann into talking more about World War Hulk: Front Line, specifically the backup stories that will feature Sally Floyd’s boyfriend teaming-up with Planet Hulk character Korg to solve a murder mystery related to “World War Hulk.”
It was asked whether or not we’ll see Nick Fury in “World War Hulk” - a simple “no” was the answer from Brevoort.
The last question was whether or not Spider-Man would be in “World War Hulk,” with Pak saying he’ll play a small role.

Did the Illuminati really sent the bomb that destroyed the planet that Hulk was at the end of Planet Hulk?
no idea...i didnt follow the planet hulk story arc...
based on world war hulk issue 1, the hulk mentioned that the 'heroes' sent a bomb.
there was a flashback, the ruined space shuttle exploded. wondering if it was really malfunction or activiated?
extracted from wikipedia :
In the 2006 storyline "Planet Hulk" by Greg Pak, after the Hulk destroys much of Las Vegas, a secret group of superheroes called the Illuminati trap the Hulk and rocket him into space to live a peaceful existence on a planet uninhabited by intelligent life. After a trajectory malfunction, the Hulk travels through a wormhole and crashes on the violent planet Sakaar. Weakened by his journey, the Hulk is captured, then sold as a slave. In a gladiatorial arena, he makes a deadly enemy by scarring the emperor's face. The Hulk overcomes great odds to become a gladiator, a rebel leader and eventually a king.
The Hulk's kingdom is in the process of making treaties with all the factions on the planet, lifelong enemies are now becoming allies and the Hulk is content. The peace does not last long. The shuttle which carried Hulk to Sakaar malfunctions, causing a massive explosion, killing thousands, including his spouse and queen, Caiera, and their unborn child. The explosion fractures the planet's tectonic plates leading to their eventual disintegration, killing almost everyone on the planet.
In a violent rage, and remembering the Illuminati, the Hulk reunites with his Warbound brothers from Sakaar and takes off in a spaceship toward Earth. He spends his time crafting large swords and other weapons in order to wage war against the Illuminati.

Wow, that's 1 powerful bomb, so the shuttle that carried Hulk to the alien planet is actually a super bomb. That means the illuminati was bent on destroying the Hulk and not simply exile him as they claims.

After that colossus, wolverine and follow by the Juggernaut each take on the hulk one on one. You should see what Hulk did to colossus' arms. :o Think no one has done that to colossus before. The World War may not be over just yet for the Hulk, but Marvel’s already looking ahead and the Hulk to come. And, as revealed at the Diamond Retailer Seminar tonight – apparently that Hulk to come is part…red? And by the creative team of Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuiness? And at the same time, Greg Pak isn’t leaving the book.
Huh?
We spoke with Pak, Editor Mark Paniccia, and Loeb to (try to) figure out more.
Newsarama: First off - you've got World War Hulk ending in October...but yet, the world keeps spinning. For both of you, does working in this market's specific conditions (Previews tells us that the Marvel Universe and its heroes are still around in October and beyond...) hamper the visceral impact that you can effectively convey in a story? Or is that a sacrifice that's already assumed in episodic, shared-universe fiction and you just make the best of it as you go?
Mark Paniccia: Editorially speaking, I’m going to say it’s the challenge of a shared universe. And every one of these challenges can be solved with the right amount of imagination—which, thanks to the creative teams involved, there’s no shortage of.
Greg Pak: Right – and while it might be possible to infer certain information about the end of World War Hulk from post-October solicitations -- but rest assured, no one on the outside has spoiled the shocking ending of the series or has any idea of its insane ramifications.
NRAMA: That said though, in November, you've got Hulk: Aftersmash. Greg - broad strokes, what's this issue about?
GP: The Aftersmash one-shot follows a number of key heroes as they grapple with the fallout of World War Hulk in the dangerous ruins of Manhattan. It's a mini-epic of emotion and action with three intertwined stories exploring questions of rage, revenge, and responsibility. And it sets up major turning points for several key characters that will launch them into several new Aftersmash miniseries over the following months.
NRAMA: The one-shot’s solicitation lists the Warbound, the Renegades, Heroes for Hire, Iron Man, Tom Foster, and Damage Control as players. Of the characters listed in the solicitation, who's been most affected by the events of WWH?
GP: Bill Foster's nephew Tom, Heroes for Hire's Misty Knight, and the Warbound's Elloe Kaifi. None of these characters will be the same by the end of the Aftersmash one-shot.
NRAMA: And also in all of this follow-up, there's Warbound - a five issue miniseries. Was this always in the plan from the start of WWH and Planet Hulk, to spin these characters off into their own project?
GP: It was always the hope. From the early days of Planet Hulk, Mark and I talked about how awesome it would be to have the chance to cut these characters loose on Planet Earth some day. So many, many thanks to the readers and reviewers and retailers whose support of Planet Hulk and World War Hulk has made the Warbound mini possible.
NRAMA: Any hints as to who makes it to Warbound? Are all of the members still with the group following WWH?
GP: At least one member won't make it to the mini. And at least one of those who does won't be all in one piece. It ain't easy being one of the Warbound -- should be interesting to see who actually makes it through the mini!
NRAMA: So where does this miniseries take place, and who else might readers see in it?
GP: The series takes place in an location essential to the Hulk mythos and features one of the Hulk's deadliest opponents -- and one of his most beloved former allies. The series will provide major pay-offs for certain elements seeded in the Incredible Hulk comic while setting up some critical elements for upcoming stories. At the same time, it's a self-contained story that anyone can pick up and enjoy -- fans of Planet Hulk in particular should dig Warbound's crazy mix of savage sci fi hijinks and high stakes heroic adventure.
NRAMA: Mark - in your eyes, what's responsible for the expansion of the WWH storyline post-WWH?
MP: The readers and retailers, of course! While Greg and I knew there would be all kinds of cool stories and characters to play with after this event, the success of Planet Hulk and World War Hulk has made it possible to further explore the post-WWH world. So a whopping big thanks to everyone who supported the book!
NRAMA: And over to the main series - we've gotten word (and image) that Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuiness are on Incredible Hulk, but also, that Greg and Carlo aren't leaving. What th-? Any explanations?
GP: A major expansion of the Hulk mythos is in the works. Two monumental stories are on their way that no Marvel fan will want to miss. I'll say no more.
NRAMA: Mark?
MP: You’ll have to wait and see. Jeph and Ed have been jonesing to do a Hulk-related story for a while now and this was the perfect time to challenge these guys and show just why they’re two of the top creators in the industry. Greg and Carlo have a different story to tell, and I think both of these projects are going to be biggest things to come out the Hulk mythos in decades. That’s saying a lot because Planet Hulk and WWH were huge for us, putting the character back on the map and making it a top ten book. 2008 will be a great time to be a Hulk fan. Trust me!
(Newsarama Note: We’re adding Jeph Loeb into the conversation now)
NRAMA: Okay, Jeph, it’s already been revealed you and Ed McGuinness were doing a run on the Hulk, now we know it will be post World War Hulk. Can we assume it will be immediately following that storyline?
Jeph Loeb: [chuckles] I don't think we can assume anything. We don't even know if there is a Post World War Hulk. So what's our book about? The Hulk. Maybe that'll be the title, The Incredibly Vague Hulk. I can tell you that this is the culmination of a lot of the stuff we talked about in Los Angeles at the beginning of the year. And yes, the Watcher will get punched out.
In terms of how long, this is the book that McGuinness was born to draw. We've talked about
staying on for a long time -- he's very involved in the storytelling - or so he thinks! [laughs]
So, we're never at a loss for this twist or that turn.
NRAMA: And it’s fallout from WWH, at least?
JL: It absolutely is a direct result of what happens at the end of WWH.
NRAMA: So we’ve asked them and gotten not much, but according to Marvel, Greg’s not off of Hulk either, coming up…how’s this going to work?
JL: Yeah. How about that? Grek (as we like to call him) has just so planted a flag on the Hulk with Planet Hulk and World War Hulk that there had to be a way for him to continue. What those guys have in mind -- incredibly cool.
NRAMA: Can we assume your story has something to do with the teaser image showing a half green and half red Hulk?
JL: I wouldn't assume anything, Pal. It'll just make an ASS out of U and ME. How awful is that joke?
NRAMA: Very. Red – as opposed to green – has traditionally been the color to illustrate someone in state of rage. And looking at the picture, it does appear the left (red) side Hulk seems even “angrier” than usual. Can readers speculate that we may be looking at a new incarnation/evolution of the Hulk? And even angrier version than ever before?
JL: I wouldn't speculate on anything. It'll just make a ... um... that doesn't work does it? Look, all I can say is that it'll be unexpected. I'm sure the guys online will speculate all sorts of things, but the one that is the answer is pretty far out there. Some people would even say it's a mystery.
NRAMA: In the past, the Hulk has also “split” personas – the Hulk and Bruce Banner has existed separately from one another for periods – how literally should readers take the image? Is that the same Hulk we’re looking at, or two distinct Hulk, which might make some sense if indeed two different creative teams will be working with the character?
JL: I believe that is you speculating. Good!
NRAMA: There is also buzz of the/a Hulk going off-world again at the conclusion of WWH. Any light you can shed on that?
JL: Love Buzz. I'm not being very helpful am I?
NRAMA: Not particularly, no.
JL: Part of this is because WWH isn't done yet. So I can't spill the beans until the beans are...ummm... what was that "assume" joke again?
NRAMA: Whatever you’re doing, any clues for readers where you can take the Hulk from here? World War Hulk seems like a climax, a plateau for the character. How do you give readers a satisfying conclusion to that story but still up the ante in a continuing story..?
JL: How does a murder sound? And maybe the least expected detective you can imagine. Okay, maybe not you can imagine. It's not a chimp.
There'll be more to say soon.
NRAMA: Back to you Greg - you've made no secret in the fact that WWH was Act II of a three-act story. When does Act III proper get rolling? Are we moving directly to it a la Planet Hulk to WWH, or is there a break?
GP: Act III is the story that Carlo and I are collaborating on. It'll launch some time in early 2008, after the four issue Incredible Hulk arc I'm co-writing with the brilliant Fred Van Lente. And it will be awesome.
NRAMA: Mark - in as much detail as you can, could you sketch out how far and wide the Hulk-verse will be reaching in the immediate future? We’ve just got a lot of info here, so can you roadmap it out for us?
MP: Sure - Aftersmash sets up three titles that will spin from WWH. One, as you know is Warbound which is five issues and tells the tale of the Hulk’s surviving alien allies. It’s firmly entrenched in the Hulk mythos but will be accessible to all comics readers. While I can’t say much about the other two un-announced titles, I can say that one deals with Goliath’s nephew, Tom Foster and the rebuilding of NYC while the other deals with Misty Knight’s new team (featuring a familiar character from Planet Hulk and World War Hulk).
Incredible Hulk #112 through #115 will bridge the gap between the end of the WWH event and Jeph and Ed’s book. Co-writers Greg Pak and Fred (Super-Villain Team-Up) Van Lente take the title in a direction you wouldn’t expect and all I can say is if you enjoyed the Incredible Hulk tie-ins you’ll love these four issues. Khoi Pham’s art is out of this world.
Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuiness’s project gives us an action-packed mystery that I can’t tell too much about except it’s scheduled as an ongoing.
And Greg and Carlo’s project, the third chapter of the overall epic that includes Planet Hulk and World War Hulk will start early next year and is currently scheduled for 12 issues.
Hold on tight! If you thought 2007 was sumpthin’, wait till you see what’s coming. 2008 is going to be a great year to be a Hulk fan!

UPDATED (below) 4:22pm EST: The three teaser images consist of an image of Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuiness' "Red Hulk" from January's upcoming Hulk - a new, ongoing series. The second, fills in the blacked-out portion of the cover to Incredible Hulk #113, showing Hercules and the apparently new title of the series - "The Incredible Herc" drawn by Arthur Adams.
The third teaser - apparently promising a 2008 project: Skaar: Son of Hulk featuring a Hulk-like character on a desolate world drawn by Carlo (World War Hulk) Pagulayan. Readers of Planet Hulk will recall that the Hulk's wife, Caiera, was pregnant at the time of her death. Of course, she was "part" of the planet, and could transform herself into stone. The character does make a fleeting appearance in the final pages of the issue as well.
And those who read What If? Plant Hulk also caught a fleeting glimpse of the character as he helped his mother create an everlasting tribute to the Hulk in a ravaged Manhattan.
And one other quasi-appearance - as Troy Brownfield pointed out in this week's Super-Articulate column, a leaked image of a "Son of Hulk" action figure from an upcoming Hasbro assortment has been making the rounds. Given Habsro's close ties with Marvel Comics' stories of late, the figure's inclusion has had many fans thinking the character's appearance in the comics was imminent. Oh - and both Hulk Editor Mark Paniccia and writer Greg Pak hinted strongly about a return to Planet Sakaar after World war Hulk back in September.
UPDATE: Marvel has released a few more details as to what the new teaser images mean.
According to Jim McCann of Marvel’s Sales Communication department (posting downstream in the discussion thread after this article Wednesday afternoon), Incredible HercIncredible Hulk series. Retaining the former series numbering starting with next month’s issue #112, the title officially changes to Incredible Hercules with issue #113.
Sakkar: Son of Hulk is an ongoing series launching in March.

I love Art Adams' art, might pick up the Hercules titles since his art is always very rare, especially on a monthly title..
Hulk got turned to red, I wonder if this got anything to do with his rage level, must be some battle at the climatic battle in WWH.

Jeph Loeb is re-teaming with Ed McGuinness on Marvel's new Hulk series, which launches on Jan. 4.
"When Ed McGuinness came to Marvel, he told me this was the book he was most interested in," Loeb said.. "He was brimming with ideas, sketches, redesigns, the works. I've always been a Hulk fan, Hulk: Gray is still one of my favorite things I've done at Marvel, and so teaming with Ed -- who I had a great deal of fun with Superman/Batman -- is a dream project for both of us.
"We hope that the fans and retailers like the thrill ride wrapped in a mystery that we've created."
The new series kicks off with one of his oldest cast members murder. Iron Man, She-Hulk and Leonard Samson are on the case, with all evidence pointing towards Hulk as the murderer.

Marvel Comics on Wednesday staged a telephone press conference with Jeph Loeb, writer of its new Hulk series.
Below are highlights from the call:
* Loeb said he was a little intimidated following Greg Pak's work on Planet Hulk and World War Hulk and has been pleased with the response to the first issue of Hulk.
* Is Banner a suspect of the murder of Abomination? "I would say it's pretty hard for someone to get out of the particular prison he's in," Loeb said, noting Banner is a base five stories below the ground with incredible secruity.
Loeb said readers will see more of the base in Hulk #3, following a throwdown in #2.
* Loeb said he and Ed McGuinness spent a lot of time talking about the book, and noted that the receptionist John Byrne created in Fantastic Four was an inspiration for the robotic secruity at the base.
* Loeb said by the end of #2, there's a "really great moment" where the Hulk, now fast, a strategist and uses a gun, appears like an Alien from the movies, where he grabs someone and beats him so fast no one is sure what they saw.
"You get an idea that something different is happening," Loeb said, adding that Iron Man will know what he's up against by #2.
* Loeb said the world doesn't know if Banner is the Hulk now. "Maybe the Hulk isn't anybody, the Hulk is just the Hulk. And if you calm him down, you just get a Hulk who is asleep," Loeb said.
* Rick Jones is now in the Alaskan frontier. "My instinct is he won't be in the Alaskan frontier for long," Loeb said, noting that when Rick and Bruce get together, nothing good usually happens.
* The Hulk is now giving off enough radiation to turn sand to glass and is leaving off a residual trail.
Loeb said between She-Hulk's strength, Tony Stark's resources and Leonard Samson's profiling ability, they should have a fighting chance against the new Hulk.
"They've up against the guy who ran the Pantheon, they ran up against Joe Fix-It," he said, noting that the Hulk's defeats have been traced back to Banner.
"But the real question, are we dealing with a Hulk we've never done before?" Loeb said, adding that by issue #4 readers should have "a pretty good idea what's going on."
* Could the Hulk be a Skrull? "I'm not ruling out anything," he said, noting the Hulk has been in space for a time and that there is also a new Son of Hulk book coming up.
* Loeb said he has promised that the Hulk is going to punch the Watcher in the face. "I love the idea of an issue where the Watcher is walking around with a big black eye," Loeb said.
* Asked about the cover to #3, Loeb said the solicitation says it's the Hulk vs. the Abomination. "I would look for something that has an indication of Abomination 2.1," Loeb said.
Asked if it was a flashback, Loeb said his inclination is to move forward with the book.
* Asked about Secret Invasion, Loeb said he probably won't crossover into it, although he is working with writer Brian Michael Bendis.
* Loeb said the idea of doing 25 issues with artist Ed McGuinness appeals to him, with some other artists doing some break-in stories, like their collaboration on DC Comics' Superman/Batman.
Loeb said McGuinness' return to Marvel was driven by his desire to work on the Hulk. "He has some new, whacked-out idea every day," Loeb said, noting that the book has an "in your face" quality with lots of close-ups.
* Talking about the core cast, Loeb said that She-Hulk will remain a major player in Hulk.
Loeb said Doc Samson will continue in more of a proactive mode and that concept of his strength coming from his hair will be dealt with.
Loeb said Tony Stark's involvement comes from his dealings with S.H.I.E.L.D. "Tony's got a lot of making up to do after Civil War," he said.
* Loeb said that Maria Hill serves as the voice of the audience, and, "at the same time is a very powerufl woman running a very powerful organization."
* Loeb said "some incredibly wild stuff" that McGuinness brings up will follow the first arc.

He's battled the Thing. He's pounded Tony Stark. But can the Hulk take on Frankenstein?
In October's Monster-Size Hulk #1, writer Jeff Parker will pit the two against each other in a story that explores a younger Bruce Banner against the monster of Frankenstein lore just in time for Halloween.
"We're jumping back a bit in Hulk history, maybe a couple of years," Parker said of the oversized issue, which features art by Gabriel Hardman. "Bruce Banner is being pursued as usual by the U.S. military, and an anonymous person has been providing him with passports and tickets to escape them in Europe. Once in Lyon, France, he finds that his benefactor is Victoria Frankenstein, last of the famous family of science-meddlers. She has a 'favor' to ask of Banner."
And while it may seem implausible that Frankenstein would have enough power to go toe-to-toe with Hulk, the writer said there's a story reason for the match-up. "You'll see! He gets a nice big monster-sized boost," Parker said.
The writer said he can't take credit for the story idea himself. "I wish I could say it's mine, but it was actually one of those mad hunches of Mark Paniccia's. He kind of enjoys positing an unlikely scenario and then making me figure out how it could happen," he said.
Fans of Parker's Agents of Atlas mini-series, a team that's returning next year in a new ongoing series, know the writer's got a thing for talking gorillas, but we asked if he's got a similar penchant for Marvel's monsters? "Oh yeah, I loved the Monster, Werewolf By Night, Marvel's version of Dracula, Man-Thing... I would be very happy if Marvel could get back in the horror business again," Parker said. ""It's very much me and artist Gabriel Hardman indulging in doing a Frankenstein monster story."
While superhero fans may think the Hulk doesn't seem to mesh with a horror character like Frankenstein, Parker said it's "not out of place at all for Hulk."
"He owes a lot to that particular modern myth," Parker said. "Look at the first appearance of gray, flat-head Hulk. All he needs is bolts in him somewhere and he's the Frankenstein Monster. Even Stan and Jack always acknowledged that. Of course, he's also Jeckyll and Hyde, but he's closer in appearance to the Monster and the theme of man meddling with forces beyond him and loosing destructive force upon the world."
The issue's set to be released right around the time people are in the mood for a Frankenstein story, which isn't a coincidence. "The timing is of course right for it, but I think this will be a good one for readers who want to get in the Halloween mood in October," Parker said. "I always loved Halloween specials, and I'm happy to have a chance to write one. Two actually, because Giant Sized X-Men First Class is one as well.
"In a similar vein, Giant Sized XFC is an homage to 1950s/early '60s monster movies, with Beast being the driving force in all the stories," Parker explained. "We have guest artists Dean Haspiel, Nick Kilisian, Michael Cho, and me and Kevin Nowlan! Also, I crossed a line and finally turned over writing duties to someone else on one feature: Roger Langridge writes and draws a two-pager that pokes at Village of the Damned/Midwich Cuckoos, which was arguably a big influence on the X-Men originally. Not as much as another book by same author John Wyndham, The Chrysalids – but we were doing more of a cinema tribute here. I wasn't about to write Roger's, because he's most brilliant on his own, he needs no collaborators. And David Williams does a spectacular double page pin-up that really has to be seen, words won't prepare you for it!"
As for artist Gabriel Hardman's work on the Monster-Size Hulk issue, it impressed the folks at Marvel enough that readers should look for more from him soon. "[He] usually does storyboards for feature film, but he loves comics and pokes into them as he has time," Parker said. "He's a powerhouse, too. Everybody is going to want to work with him after they see this story, but I think Brubaker already got his clutches into Gabriel for a project next. "
