3 in 4 S'poreans not satisfied with their bonuses: poll

SINGAPORE: More than three quarters of employees in Singapore – 77 percent – are not satisfied with their bonuses.

This is according to the survey results of recruitment consultant Robert Walters.

The percentage of staff unhappy with their bonuses in Singapore is slightly higher than the international figure of 72 percent.

Robert Walters said it polled close to 500 people around the world.

And in a bigger survey that included 1,300 professionals across the globe, three quarters of the respondents who were considering changing jobs said they would prefer to do so within three months.

In fact, close to 47 percent of them said they would prefer to start a looking for a new job within one month.

Robert Walters said the sample pool of professionals were from a variety of industries.

Not sure if this is appropriate, but here goes:

Why there is a 13-month bonus when it is really isn't a bonus? The mystery is finally revealed!

When the British were in Singapore, they were being paid weekly & they argued that Singaporeans were actually being cheated into believing that the 13th month pay is a bonus.

Singaporeans are being paid monthly which is equivalent to 4 weeks pay coz there are 4 weeks in a month.

As the British were paid weekly, it worked out to the same. You see, there are 7 days in a week. 4 weeks in a month. 12 months in a year.

Then 12 months should work out to 48 weeks only. But 1 year worked out to 52 weeks!!! Hence the 13th month is your own pay (not bonus??!!).

So, the British argued that there is in fact no bonus at all??? It is a very simple calculation that stunned many!!!!

BONUS??? What bonus??? . #$%*@!!!

this is AWS, aka Annual Wage Supplement.. not considered a bonus.

Got pp satisfied with their bonuses one meh??? Who? Durai-clones? Singapore so expensive, imported toys so expensive $$$ always not enough... or maybe i low-wage earner cannot understand the top earners

Not sure if this is appropriate, but here goes:

In my corp, 13th mth bonus is benefit given to those lower level staffing, usually those with dip and below.

Officers with degree and above will not get it, COZ its all "put" into their monthly salary le.

Its an open secret we all know here.

My previous company din have AWS or even 13th month. It only had a variable bonus scheme. and I was there for 10+ years... the last time I got any bonus I think is about 4 yrs ago leh .....

Luckily my present job has both AWS and variable bonus ... still looking forward to it come end of the year

yep ...better switch soon ...everytime i hear abt my wife, frens ..or relatives getting big bonuses ..i olso bery envious ....

I also don't have AWS. But these 1 2 years, I have changed the way I look at these things. Money is one thing that makes a lot of people unhappy, because they wil never be satisfied with what they get. Even if they are satisfied now, they will still ask for more in the next year, and just keep on doing this and keep complaining if they don't get it. Just concentrate on work and be happy lah, the cycle wil never end when a person's mindset don't change :D
