As usual, I was one of the first people in SG to feel it coz I am staying on the 15th floor in Punggol. The aftermath was great and the duration was quite long as well.
The CBD, East and West of Singapore reported that tremors were felt. CNA reported that even JB felt it.
My mom's reaction was to get out of the house and so were those interviewed via telephone on CNA. Most of these people must be really uneducated about earthquakes coz what people should do is take cover. For people like me, I advised my mom if we were to avoid it, we should be hiding in the bomb shelter in our house instead coz if the building were to collapse, we won't be trapped. For those in the office, hide under the table or something sturdy to protect your heads instead of running off the building.
Seriously, people need to be educated more adequately.

Commonly-received wisdom has it that one should take cover while the earthquake is in progress - however, once the shaking stops, it should be safe to evacuate, and safer to get into the open away from buildings. Either that or you could trust your bomb shelter if you have one and it hasn't been coverted into Mr. Toy Storeroom.
So, I think it really depends on at which stage of the quake people began to evacuate. I'd definitely bugger off out of a building once the swaying stops and appears unlikely to start up again (say after a 5 minute no-shake period).

if u noe a lil bout the architectures in sg, u'd know that the buildings wont collapose so easily like 911 due to structures wadsoeva.
a mere shake lidat wont cos any of us to lose a home, yet.

But the new plaster type HDB is unlike the old brick and steel. Every time got shake like this, cracks appear on the wall. Even the mild sinking of the land here in Punggol also will cause such problems... Guess it's HDB's method in maximising profits...

I think that's because Aboriginal mud huts sway in time with the earth.
the thing abt feeling the earthquate in S'pore is such that some will feel it, some won't, even if they in the same building... strange, isn't it? my wife juz told me her dept felt it, some other dept didn't, while one dept took the initiaite to evacuate 'emselves... cool man, don't need to work liao :D

On the same level? Usually people on the higher levels will feel the most. And places like Marine Parade etc which were once reclaimed lands will also tremble the most.
My sister took geography last time and she said some parts of SG have extremely hard lands and those are the least affected areas. They sure are missing out the "fun". :)

I felt it twice in my office, and we are not even in a tall building.
It was reported that a company let its staff leave for home at 2pm. Actually I don't see much point about granting people to leaving early, except that management don't have to be responsible should something happen.

See excerpts of CNA report below ... dunno wad kind of wussmaster society we live in. Behave like frikkin preschoolers lor.
"Everyone was panicking. One of my colleagues was crying because she had never felt such an effect before. We were all rushing out of the building."
Another office worker told Channel NewsAsia he saw people screaming as they went out.
Wish we also had a half day off or longer lunch hour here but my office will be one of the last places to be evacuated .... haiz...

I wonder if Singapore will be still sending aid packages to help the afffected area of this quake, due to the recent bans they imposed. I often feel we at the same time have hidden agendas in helping them in the past, not good hearted. :|

Not only bans, they held SG ships in custody too!!

I trust S'pore to be stupid enuff to send 'em aids... it's always like dat one, we're like the little kid in the neighbourhood always looking for pple to play with us... I guess S'pore is too small and need to suck up to the big boys all the time... the other time they called us little red dot, we also help 'em... this time would be no different

I think you mean are those barges carrying garanite to Singapore. They are summugglers as some papers said, dun think the barges are registered to SG. Dun have garanite, SG can dig some that my area. (lots of garanite rocks)

I read the reports on Yahoo also. Although it is possible, but it sort of amused me that somebody is actually crying because of the shake. I guess Singapore have always been too safe that people can't handle sudden events.

I don't want to sell u sand, wht can u do to me? I take over ur TV station, wht can u do to me? yes, we can't do anything to 'em (that's for sure), but someone above will take care of things for us :)
