Saw it in today's papers that Singapore and Walt Disney are going planning to build Disneyland in Singapore. They even have a map of the proposed site for the giant theme park and from what I see, it relatively near to the Marina IR.
I really hope they both can come into certain agreements and get Mickey here!!! :hello:

i tot Malaysia is talking to Warner Bros... no?
no, JB was talking to Disney Japan but US clarified that no use talking to Japan cos they only operate the franchise & they are unable to issue franchise licence.
Disney does not have any plan to set up any theme park in JB. :D
Disney at Marina  it doesnt blend in the IR concept leh.....
Then instead of HK having the smallest Disneyland around Singapore's gonna have the smallest one. Probably all the themes will be in miniature size. But i look forward to the type of rides they will be having in the park.

Cannot.
Cos they wanted to ban Pluto and refused to let hot dogs be sold.
Anyway ... theme park got so fun meh? Dunno la, if wan to do, betta do big and powerfools. Keci-keci type dun waste time. I oso suspect SG type will be the mini-version; cannot make it.
If newspaper report is true, the Malaysia negotiations is the lagi mostest cannot make it - talk so big in the end kena Disney smackdown in the press. Dunno where to hide the face (maybe put under the sarong?).

If want to build, plese do a normal size Disney, not like the one in HK or even smaller. Its just not "Disney" enough to be small, the grandness will never be there.

Actually no one confirmed the size yet coz I only caught a glimpse of that article. Will try to find out more about the land area allocated. :)

Told you all not to speculate liao... The site reserved for Disneyland Singapore although is less than 1/4 of what Walt Disney requested in 2004, it will be the same size as the one in Tokyo at about 70Ha.
The proposed Disneyland is larger than the Marina Bay IR and 18 hole Marina Bay Golf Course as well.

Just read Today also ... we'll see ... whatever happens, happens. Personally, I'm not really big on the idea of theme parks. And a 70ha Disney park in dumpy old SG; I dunno lah, just doesn't sound as rockening as a 70ha Disney park in Tokyo.
At least if it happens then at nite I bo liao can go and hoot the Mickey. Lure him out wif pretend cheese or wat then kick him into the longkang. Teach him to everytime shake his backside in such a gay gay manner.
Song!

Woo disney in SG. It sounds interesting. SG could convert the entire island of st. John into Pirates of Carribean park. Take out brani and make it into Adventure Land. Link them with underwater passageways connected to Atlantis park. Take part of the giant green house SG is building and set some elements of Bug's Life.
As for mickey ... leslie, there are so many of them running around my neighbourhood. Have time come help me kick them into the longkang. Erm wait ... i think they live in the longkang.

remember the casino entrance fee for singaporeans? Later government, impose a $100 safety fee, so as to assure that the park is 'safe' for the kids to enjoy...:D
disney is not gonna be inside the IR.
It'll be beside the NTUC gof course at East Coast :D
Price of going to Disney land is around $65.
there are plan of not renewing the golf course lease when it expire in 20yrs time if Disney is really gonna come here.
the golf course will be reserve for Disney's future expansion.

Here is the news from CNA:
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/229204/1/.html
SINGAPORE: One month before the four bidders for the Sentosa integrated resort (IR) put their cards on the table, comes a stunner: The winner could face a theme park rival, right here in Singapore. Mickey Mouse - who has spurned the advances of Johor - could come to town.
According to market talk, US-based operator Walt Disney has been in discussions with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) on a possible theme park in Marina East. The site in question is an empty plot of land beside the new 18-hole Marina Bay Golf Course at Tanjong Rhu, operated by a unit of NTUC Club, Lianhe Zaobao reported yesterday.
While some areas around the golf course have been marked for development - such as for the 30 ha Marina East Garden - the use of this plot of land "has not been decided yet", said the Urban Redevelopment Authority. Although Disney and STB would neither confirm nor deny the rumours, a source told Today that negotiations have been progressing well.
"The talks went further than they have ever gone before," he said.
In the 1990s, Singapore almost had its own Disneyland in the Seletar area, but the deal fell through because Disney wanted a huge 300 ha chunk of land - over four times bigger than its Tokyo attraction - but was not prepared to fork out its own money.
Disney eventually went to Hong Kong because its Government owned 57 per cent of the whole operation. On why Disney may bite this time, the source said: "Disney could be emboldened by the plans for the Marina area, including the IR there, and agree to come since so much is being done to attract tourists."
It remains to be seen whether the government offers to take a stake in the project, how large the park will be and how the proposal affects the Sentosa IR aspirants. Genting, for instance, is counting on rival park operator Universal Studios as its trump card for the Sentosa race, while Kerzner International is likely to operate its own water-based theme park. Said Mr Sean Monaghan, an analyst at Merrill Lynch: "The viability of the Sentosa theme park will be dependent on the kind of competition it would face. Just five weeks before submission, it would be difficult for the government to announce anything major that will affect their plans."
Still, if Disney is successfully wooed, the head-on competition here could prove interesting, he said.
"If Singapore adopts the Hong Kong Disneyland model, then the private investors in Sentosa IR will effectively be in competition with the government," he added. According to reports, it's believed that the Singapore Disneyland - if it goes through - would be of the same scale as the 70ha Tokyo theme park.
This small scale, and Singapore's hot weather, could lead to Disney adopting a new generation of indoor theme parks that its CEO Robert Iger floated last year in a Wall Street Journal report.
He said there were "three or four entities in the world, locations with money, that are looking for site-based entertainment" - full rides and shows within a building.
"I'll call them theme parks but they won't necessarily be along the same lines as parks we've built before ... In the next year to two years ... we will commit to creating a new concept or some entity outside the US," he said then. Analysts pointed out he could be hinting at Singapore.
STB declined to confirm anything yesterday but said that it was always on the lookout for major tourism projects, beyond the two IRs. It said it maintains a "healthy dialogue" with key players, but did not identify anybody. A Disney spokesperson added that Singapore continued to be a good market but it had nothing to announce.
Whether Mickey Mouse will cause unhappiness among the Sentosa bidders remains to be seen, as three of the quartet - Genting, Kerzner and Harrah's Entertainment - remained tight-lipped when asked to comment. The fourth, Eighth Wonder, hailed Disney as the "undisputed global leader" in the theme park industry, taking a dig at Genting's tie-up with Universal.
Mr Nicholas Mak, a director of consultancy and research at Knight Frank, is more sanguine about the potential tussle between rival theme park operators.
He said: "Look at Gold Coast. It has three theme parks, yet each of them is different. Without these parks, Gold Coast is just a small town with nice beaches. So why not two in Singapore? This will really make the whole place more exciting." - TODAY
BR, it gonna be BESIDE the NTUC golf course not at the golf course :D
yesterday's ZaoBao said that if Disney really settle there, the NTUC golf course lease will not be renew as Disney all over the world expand over the yrs & that golf course will be reserved for them if they come.

how many times can you visit before you are sick of it?
And unlike our airport and PSA harbours,
SG Disney will never be No1.
so.. whatever lah.
at least it will be good while it lasted. before it becomes the next haw par villa.
Pockets will burn and parents will cry if Disneyland opens in SG.

Wah Sentosa upgrade with train links, east coast upgrade and tons of others upgrade, IR, Spaceport and now Disney? SG is really morphing into another 'Cpme and Have TONS of fun' Island siah. Sigh, IMO in this way, its more difficult to have a sense of identity liao more like rojak sigh. So ex how to go? than the others follow suit and increase their price :bang:
I wonder when will be STB (singapore tourism board) do a "good job" in attracting tourist. The are many tourist spot "rotting away" which are .......... behind spotlight. Disney better think thrice before stepping to tainted water it is not familiar.
Examples are:
1) Singapore Discovery Centre
2) Singapore Science centre
3) Chinese and Japanese Garden
4) Haw Pa Villa
5) Please add on as I do have limited knowledge of tourist spot where you know tourist buses are uncommon sight. (1 day only 12 or less tourist buses)
Would be better if they opened a movie studio here with its own theme park like Universal Studios!
I would be more inclined to visit it!
if Genting got the Sentosa IR, we'll have Universal Studio theme park as well :D

personally i'd prefer some other kind of characters that are more current... maybe Cartoon Network Studio.. or even Nickelodeon...i mean.. where's the appeal for Disney nowadays? Universal, Fox... there's a whole bunch of characters that appeal to kids...
