Last night, local Chinese newspapers were splashed with front page news of Hong Kong artiste's semi-naked photographs being used on the front cover.
The news has created much anxiety, anguish and anger especially among female counterparts aside from fans.
A petition online written by fans called outrage modesty of celebrity was created to bring social awareness to the matter.
There are many ways to boost the sales of a magazine, ethically, rather than having to hurt someone with pen and paper. We want to bring to attention to society, that such unscrupulous acts cannot be tolerated or condoned!
Whether as a fan or as an individual, such acts cannot be condone, what if the next person to be hurt is someone close to you?
Please help us by supporting the petition, your support will be greatly appreciated.

These things happen.
I mean, most celebs have taken it in their stride.
I would actually think it's a way to boost popularity.

Well, it's a matter of degree as to how much celebrities have to "take in their stride"; I would tend to say that they shouldn't have to if the situtation involves a violation of the law or their unwaived rights.
I am not fully apprised of the facts in this case, but in any event, I think a petition is useless. Firstly - if there is no demand, there will be no supply. And the truth is, there will always be a demand for salacious news so as long as the pocketbook is not hurt (and hurt in a manner that makes it clear that people are boycotting the publication by reason of its salaciousness).
Further, the celebrity in question has the usual array of legal recourse, and in all probability the resources to access such recourse. That's the proper and effective forum, not a petition by fans.
today it is already yesterday's news, like paris hilton sex tapes, winnona ryder shoplifting, uma thurman's divorce, tom and nicole, angelina and brad
This happens quite often, its just been blown out of proportion (which is good for bussiness profits) cos its a celeb (aka god) this time and not some female (commoner's) pictures you receive in your inbox taken by a camera hidden in the dressing room or toilet in the mall.

IMO?? it's a demand and supply RUBBISH.. pple like to read? pple write.. i've nv like the way singapore newspaper/media do things.. but this is how it works.. and there is nothing WE can do abt it.. i always take the papers as a reference.. i do not believe fully with wat the papers says..the power of distorting one mind by the media is too strong.. simply cause many readers just read and believe things blindly..
i agree with wat leslie have pointed out.. seriously no point.. just do ur part but not supporting such nonsense is enuff..

While by definition the news printed yesterday is well, yesterday's news, I would make a distinction between say sex tapes that are stolen and then circulated in public, and the reporting of an event in fact. Generally, only the latter has a chance of being acceptable via a journalistic and/or public interest POV.

Well.. any publicity is good publicity.. even bad publicity.
Could have been a PR stunt as well..
(ala Janet Jackson's wardrode malfunction)
seeing how those 2 HK girls have been out of the news of late..
