Just curious here... Do you guys/gals normally bring home unfinished work from company to continue working them at home to meet schedule...?
For me, I don't and I also can't do that. Reason is because, company PC has disable all possible sources of this option of bringing work home. Which can be good if you think time for family is for family only. On the other hand, its to secure all news/IP from possible leakage.
Personally, I do feel one shouldn't bring home your work. Bringing home your work also means bringing home your stress, troubles, thinking and this compromise your family life and its very disruptive to your own life too...

I am still a student but had part timed before.
Just before entering NS, I was temp-ing in SilkAir. Although that time I was paid by the hour, there were times when I wanted to bring home some of the airway bills to calculate. But due to their nature, those were deemed as sensitive data, I was advised from doing so. So I went back for free on Saturday to do them. (coz the airline industy never sleeps. :D)
Although the working for free part was kinda stupid, but I felt committed to finish my work and take chances to learn as much from every industry and management operations as possible. :)
I think bringing work home is kinda part and parcel around my life, and I don't mean my homework. =))
My dad brings work home almost everyday and my friend who is being trained to management level has extra workload to bring home to complete as well.
Bringing work home = can have the opportunity to have dinner with your families, instead of mugging in the office. But in some cases, I have worked with my friend past midnight and still has to bring home the work...
Sometimes it's the nature of the job that determines whether you need to bring home work or not. This is especially true for the logistics firms as volume of work are not constant. And some jobs totally need you to do part of your work at home, eg. mystery shopper!! :D
:topic: Mystery shopping is really fun coz you know you're doing your part in helping to improve the service sector in SG. Unfortunately the tutorials and reports suck... :shooting:

Last time i used to bring work home to do due to dateline and alot of other stuff that needs to be cleared in office, hence no time to do other work. but now, i dun do that anymore, cos to me i find that we spent most of our time in office liao and no time for home, so must balance out. Moreover, family is more important.

Whenever possible, its better to do all work in the office, even if it means staying late, or gong back to office during weekends.
Once you start the habit of bringing work home, there won't be any differentiation of home and work, and one day (can be few months or few years), you will feel very sick of it. Try to leave your work at where you left it, the office.
I feel that this is not about hardworking or responsibility. A person don't have to bring work home to be responsible.

Wow... thanks for all the feedback guys/gals... I really love this forum...:D
Even if I can bring my 'work-home', I wouldn't choose that option. First, my wife would be mad at me for not being with her. Second, I didn't claim for 'OT' even if I bring back my work home. Third, I am risking my family life if I bring my work home. Last but not least, I also need time for myself too, right...? :D
If I am my wife, I would prefer my hubby to talk to me, communicate and share the happenings for our day, get close. Rather than getting close to 'work'.... :beg:

I don't bring work home as I feel that there should be a clear line drawn or psychologically you cannot tell the difference anymore. Everyone needs some rest. Productivity also takes a dive with prolonged working hours. However, I empathise with those who have no choice but to do so.

work is never done.
i tried my best NOT 2 bring work home as
1. data/ infor are private and confidential. if lost, will ve 2 be responsible.
2. home is where u rest n relax not for workin.

For those bringing or "Da Bao" work home, how does your spouse reacts when he/she sees you busy working....? A turn off or its a begining of 'cold war'...? :D
I am glad to see that a majority of them doesn't brings work home... Thats a balance lifestyle between rest and work. But for those who doesn't, its no choice since its their job committment... :)

Actually sometime when company says sensitive data, I think it's because they do not really trust the staffs.
If you notice, those people in the higher management level have no problem bringing work home to do while you are required to stay and slog in the office when there's deadline to meet.

This is the Altered Beast thread ah ... "Rise from your graaave~!!"
I don't like bringing work home but i'm wishing very hard for a laptop now. If anybody has one for loan i'd grab it now. Have a deadline to meet by 30th June still far it seems but with documentation etc. and a info system to change thats very short.
HELP!
Yet somehow i'm still loving my job.... ironic eh? When i bring work home, mum asks if she can help.

Well to speak the truth this is something that I hated particularly but my fate has forced me to do the same. I have to bring work back to home being in a responsible position I just cannot afford to let things get loose. But this restricts the time that I should devote with my family. I get upset with myself at times for this but there is little that I can do to reverse things.
