ComfortDelGro only found 10% of their fleet disappearing before peak period.
From my experience, many taxi drivers will drive around not picking up passengers or putting up 'on call' signs until peak period kicks in or until I call a cab. >.<

I think this problem has existed since last year and there were TV programs on it. But I think the increase in fares has driven up the number of taxis disappearing...
yesterday zaobao, said that now the cab fare increase, got alot of cab on the road but no pax....exp the peak hour...
so now if the cabby go hide some more....can eat themselve liao....:D

Peak period also no passenger? Life must be tough for cabbies now.

This is one prob i dun like abt local cabbies.
They are ruining their own image. Yes, i agree they have a tough job. But if they can provide good customer service, i am sure that passengers will feel that the price is justify.
That day i was watching a short documentary on the price hike for taxi fares. There was a family of tourist stuck in the Raffles Place area for 30 mins not cab. Then this show's reporter recommended them to walk to a bus stop which is 20mins walk away. They have no choice but to walk lor. But they are lucky they got a cab later on.
Results? Poor image of sg from tourists...

we all should start a ANTI cab campaign...
not only do they hide before peak hours.. the hide using the weekends.. esp Suntec... drive round and round.. waiting for people to call!!! when the Q at the suntec taxi stand is like never ending..
If we all don't take cab.. we will all see their business drop ha haa ha ha aha...

I have to agree on that. I called a Cab once cos i was in a hurry, but i had to pick a friend of mine before that.. the cabby was scolding and nagging at me throughout the WHOLE journey! Say what cannot have 2 point pick up... he lugi money.. (inside i was like WT****.. i call a cab leh.. i paying you extra $2.50 cents LOH.. and it is not as if picking up my friend is NOT on the way)
Then later lagi best!
I ASKED him to use Holland Road! and he wants to use Queenstown Road!!
I was fuming MAD LIAO... he went on to criticise how Singaporeans want to use shorter route without thinking about Jams...( I mean i used Holland so many time.. and confirm no JAM!!)
WAh peng eh.. this taxi driver..

I dunno how other countries' taxis operate. But from what i read, in Japan their taxi drivers are very customer orientated wan. They have uniforms, wear gloves. Passengers never have to touch the handle boarding or alighting the cab.
So i guess thats why the ppl there are ok for their super ex fares.

Actually some of Singapore's taxis have the auto door too, but I have only encountered one that was really in use... :(

Yah, i noticed too. But its really only some, and only started recently...
And like Hitman said abt dangerous driving.
Some taxi drivers really just think of driving faster so can earn more lor. I think they only think abt that. But how abt the pride and seriousness in their job? They are labelled under service sector too... So much for the incoming IR...
just now heard from radio 100.3 on this issue...got one taxi driver called in...he admit all of them used to do this..hide at car park...tok cok and smoke before peak hours...and wait...in order to make more money....:o another one lagi tok gong...he say.." this one is not call disappear suddently....we oso ned to rest mah...so we park at car park, smoke loh...even i don smoke...i oso jion them lah..tok cok mah.....they only say want to catch those refuse to pick up passanger one...we only resting...nothing wrong mah...." wat da....f***......these days biz no good still can eat snake like this meh? they better wake up man..if not the whole sgp cabby industry image will be ruin by these bunch of ppl.....:(

Hmm.... Maybe in view that the cab fare may increase, that may explain why there are more pple buying cars instead of taking cabs ;)
Yeah, encountered that too..... was taking a cab from Buona Vista to Braddell Road, shortcut is to go via Holland Road, then to Lentor Ave.... ended up he drove to Ngee Ann Poly, then to PIE, then exit to Lentor Ave where we're caught by the jam :duh: That costs me additional $5
Along the way, I asked him why didn't he go via Holland Road instead, it's alot shorter.... he just kept mum and later add on that it's faster
Cabs disappearing before peak period thanks to david copperfield and sealth technology. Taking longer routes problem cabbies must get GPS/Eurostar system from their respective operator to map out the perfered route before moving off.=))

Actually not recent. I have noticed them like 2 years ago. But I wonder what's stopping them from using the auto door to serve the customer better...

We should complain more.. if their service is not good.. For increasing the prices i rather take bus if the taxi drivers are becoming more and more reckless and impolite.

Ya i agree :D sometimes i also can't stand the taxi drivers. They will drive recklessly and ignore your safety and when you told him to drive your way, he will just keep quiet and continue his driving with an angry face as if i owe him one hundred million like that :(
Sometimes complain also no use, they will only get warning from the company.

Maybe I am friendly coz I always try to strike a friendly conversation with them, so they always take the route I said or ask me which route I want. :D
Usually try to talk to them about the cons with their jobs and they will gladly spill the beans out with you and share their woes. Sometimes the uncles were kind enough to round down the fare. :D

This is another prob the bosses dun see. Coz they only have $ $ in their eyes.
These bosses believe that with this increase of taxi fare, the service will increase too. This not i say wan, its what they really said in interviews.
They also claim that this will help to ease the taxi drivers' burden and increase their earnings.
THATS THE POINT OF VIEW FROM THE BOSSES.
Why? Coz in the end the bosses think they will benefit from this.
KAOZ! They like never study before econs or finance wan is it?!
U increase the fare. Passengers think its xiong, so take less rides liaoz. Less rides mean less earnings. U think taxi drivers still can even earn as much/little as what they earned previously? These bosses are only pushing the taxi drivers to the cliffs and watch them jump.

I didn't follow the news about the fare increase. Did all the cab companies decide to raise their fares? Seems strange that every cab company would agree to raise fares at the same time, or are the fares determined by some board?

I think comfort started it, the rest followed in soon after.
I think no board came in for this. But from what i rem, they claim that some organisation after surveys, feel that this increase is needed.

I think cab fares are still reasonable, it's the way they exploit the system and make it such a nasty experience. hiding just before peak period doesn't reflect well on the service levels of the cab drivers. I agree with meow that they should be taught how individually they will reflect on the entire industry. And i agree with piglet too, complain doesn't help.
I oso agree... price hike is nt so bad.. the bad part is cabbie hiding to earn those extra! :shooting:
N true.. complainin in sg no use... unless u are among the elite! :shooting: :shooting: :shooting:
haiyah...most bosses are gu gu what...they only think of themselve, where got think of their men one.....

Actually it's quite significant if you take taxis rather often. If you're only taking once a blue moon, then it's reasonable coz you are already willing to pay for the extra for convenience. So in the long run, it's not exactly reasonable. ;)
Just saw one excellent example of people who are affected: Getai Singers. :)

Sometimes if something is too highend might not be gd thing. This will only reach out to the rich ppl...
Why not bring it down to middle class range. Earn less but get to go more trips coz ppl are willing to hail a cab already.
