View Full Version : Disney denies reports of theme park in Malaysia

The Walt Disney Co. said Tuesday that it has no plans to build a theme park in Malaysia, despite media reports that said the company was in talks with the Malaysian government about a park.
"We are constantly exploring opportunities around the world as we look to grow our parks and resorts business. At this time, however, there are no existing discussions in Malaysia and we currently have no plans for a Disney-branded resort development in that country," Lisa Haines, a spokeswoman for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, told the media.
Effendi Norwawi, the minister in the Malaysian Prime Minister's Department in charge of economic affairs, earlier told the media that the government is in talks with Disneyland operators in Japan and the United States about a potential theme park in the southern state of Johor near Singapore. Norwawi also told the media that the government is hoping for a deal with Disney but is also "discussing with several other parties to get the best option."

Knew that the news on Malaysia getting Disneyland in Johor is a joke. Disneyland is still a US icon. I do not think that US will want to build a Dineyland in Malaysia (US is still a raceis place). And japan's Disneyland have no role in doing negotiating other opportunities for Disney. If Malasyia really want to, they shoot have went to US and ask not go to Japan. -_- Japan is not the main boss.

Wah Disney in Singapore! I always thought Disneyland too big too un-enconminal to built in Singapore. Maybe in the future Singapore can have 2 Disneyland. (the other is Changi Prison for naughty boys and girls)=))

Disney is interested in setting up in Singapore but the Singapore government is not.
From what I understand, the state will have to pay alot for the development of the entire project while Disney sits and watches. After completion, Disney will also take like 50% of the takings. Thus Singapore government isn't interested in a project that the monies don't really go into their pocket.

no, actually they wanted Disney to fully handle the Disney Land, from development till operation, govt only willing to provide the Land & out of the Disney biz....

Singapore do want Disneyland but if there place to build in Singapore left.

correction, people still want us, they've ask the tourism board to send official to London to talk to their Boss, they still keen on having the race here despite another track is as near as KL.

Well, someone admitted in one of his speeches that this is one of his biggest regret. And he was too idealistic thinking that people can grasp two languages too. :laugh:
For your informations guys Singapore may have hosted a F1 until the "goverment" banned or cancel the show in the late 1960. I need help finding which year was it.

For your info here, It is "Devil's Bend". It is around here around Old Thomson Road. 20 minute walk from the Casuarina Road entrance to Upper Peirce Reservoir.
It used to be a grand prix race track in the 1960s. Devils Bend have a sharp corner where many drivers have ended their life at. From what I heard is that the race track was closed down in the 1970s due to too many people dieing there.
The Road is still there. And it is a good hilking place to go to. I went there for hilking. Can find alot of army boys the stuff their left..
And After you walk out of there, there is alot of good food place around there. ^^

Devil's Bend at night, said to have ghost or the people who died in the Car races or crash is still at there

OT: Johor do have a better state of security compared to the other Malaysian states, if i'm not wrong. It is due to people who show their riches like Singaporean who gets rob, murdered, etc.
