Unlike the new generation that starts with Kuuga, the earlier series are not easy to get. From what I know only KR 1, KR 2, V3 and Black are sold locally. The rest like X, Amazon, Stronger, Skyrider and Super 1 probably have to get from overseas or download from the net. All the newer series are available in the shops if I'm not wrong, Kuuga, Agito, Ryuki, Faiz, Blade, Hibiki and Kabuto.

Currently, these are what I can find in some of the local VCD shops (not anime/comic shops):

- Kuuga (DVD) some private VCD shops,
- Agito (DVD) some private VCD shops,
- Ryuki (VCD) at TS,
- Faiz (VCD) at Poh Kim,
- Blade (DVD) some private VCD shops but cannot be found :(
- Blade (VCD) at TS

Hibiki and Kabuto cannot be found in the local VCD shops, but they are available at the comic shops or anime shops ;)

If you go to TS, most of the time, I frequent the Toa Payoh branch, you will see them bringing more Toku series ;)

A rare toku news report from a member of our group who was at a convention recently with some Toei members.

Without going into details (stay tuned to our forums for a more thorough synopsis of what happened), some interesting tidbits of news came up:

-There will be a new Kamen Rider the First movie this winter

-A 90 minute Garo tv special is coming in a few months

-A special 30th anniversary Sentai movie is coming out next year (unfortunately that means a magi/bouken movie is on hold at the moment)

Anybody watch Hibiki series? I heard a lot of ppl said it's not nice, in fact some even said it's stupid.
I don't find it any worse than other modern KR series like Ryuki or Faiz. However, it may not be for everyone.

Some possible downers include the fact that the pacing of the story is really quite slow. There's a lot of emphasis on the "growing up" theme, sometimes at the expense of action. The "riders" don't look anything like classic insectoid riders - instead more like a bunch of demon-themed band members :p (then again, Ryuki's riders are way toku-looking also).

Monster design is not for everyone either, with many monster simply being overgrown CGI insects or animals. The mutant monsters themselves aren't very colourful or imaginatively done, and don't have any memorable personalities in general.

Um, hard for me to recommed this as a "you sure will like" kind of series. I'm personally OK with it, but just want to say that if you want to give Hibiki a real chance, you'll have to have a bit of endurance and tough it out past the first half of the series, which is as I said, rather slow.

For me, Started Kamen Riders from Faiz.

1) Faiz + Lost Paradise: Complete watching 3 times
2) Blade + Missing Ace: Half way Done
3) Hibiki + (movie dont know the name siah lol): Half Way Done
4) Kabuto: Started not long ago.

Umm for me imo, I like Faiz alot. But since only seen this 4, cant comment on those b4. Faiz can connect to me more as it is of a more closer age. But the thing that attract me the most is the story line. The amount of twist in the story is amazing. Nvr would i imagine, so much effort put into a toku series. Even for the 'bad guys' series thought in the intigration of story are met' their are even character development fro them. IMO, KM Faiz's/555/Faizu is the best. Imo, pure addiction. But warning: Watch the original Japanese one. The others dudding is like crap lol.

IMO Blade is those very 'Main Character' Oriented. Story wise not as heavy and Build up is slow. The animation for the combination of their rouzer cards are indeed nice but for a later stage cause the more cards they combine, the more 'pretty' the moves.

IMO Hibiki is much more light hearted. I didn't jump in for much story but for pure entertainment and i got that. Laughter, fun. The main character is funny especially when he tried ridding his colleague Bike. Btw, Hibiki series, they are Oni, something like ghost busters.

IMO Kabuto, I have not watch much but the story seems to be easily enticipated. But at least this time the 'good guys' are more 'buggy' feel which reflects back to the retro series. The 'bad guys' in this series, imo are really off lol.

That was my favorite series as I liked the design of the Kamen Riders the best. Different versions of Final Vent too. Beats watching rider kick over and over again. The most expensive series as there are 13+1 Riders plus Mirror Monsters to collect. SH series was worth it as the accessories for the are decent. There are suposedly 3 or 4 different endings for Ryuki. The movie was weird as the story was told differently again.

Than Blade+Missing Ace Movie on crunchyrolls
Storyline was boring at first, not much character development till Leagle
showed up. Than the plot started getting well developed with more secrets being revealed. The movie was rather interesting. Still wondering why wild chalice was not released in SH series. SH series accessories were too little for the price they were asking.

Than Faiz(555)+Lost Paradise on crunchyroll
I thought the design of the Kamen Riders was kinda crappy. Again rider kick again for all 3 main characters really dulled the action. But the plot was really good except for the 1st two episodes which were totally boring. Too many extra actors/actresses complicating the story.

Than Kabuto+God Speed Movie on crunchyroll
Very intersting show with Clock Up/Make Up/Cook Up with food being the only constant theme in the show. Rider kicks finally differed from the trademark ones. Had some weird looking riders(GAS Mask style KR Drake). Weird color KR Sasword. This series made my mouth water with the amount of food being shown. The lead actors are not that good looking either. Possibly the most cocky Kamen Rider is seen here.

Know it's :topic: but just Bought Hibiki (TV series) from a shop in chinatown point and really pissed me off... It was DVD but recorded from VCD... quality was really bad and very pixelated. Called the shop to tell them this pro, they say it's DVD but cos they compress the video so it's like that... ( I dun really mind paying more for crystal clear product cos i want to keep them) really regretted not checking... Arrgghhhh!:bang: :bang: :bang:

The shop in Chinatown Point, is it just a short walk from the cosplay shop (upslope)? The shop where there are a lot of other anime/toku series DVDs? And they sell quite a no. of other anime/toku merchandise?

If it's the shop I'm talking about, then I have to think again about getting the Kamen Rider 555 DVD set from there...thanks to the warning from you. ;)

Anyway, I saw 555 and Blade DVD at China Square at a stall...but it's going at $89.90. Wonder if higher price means better quality? :salute:

Think the quality of some of the DVDs there are ok. I got Black from there and it's not bad. Partly my fault as i didn't ask them to try...(was searching for hibiki for some time so was damn happy when i saw it but now disappointment even higher :( But what irks me is tt they don't give e warning that it's not going to be clear and their approach is after you pay up then too bad lah.. cos i called them next day to see if I could change another title instead of keeping the very pixelated DVD as I wanted to collect, but given no xchange unless it's faulty and Kept insisting it's DVD quality when apparently it's not loh.

Actually it not only about Hibiki doesnt have the masked rider look that I think it should not label under kamen rider series. Another reason is, in my opinion lah, the so call riders do not have their own battle bike. True ibuki as a human has his own bike and somewhere later in the series hibiki learnt to ride a bike too, but it all seen like having them to ride a normal bike for the sake of, well just because the title implicates Kamen "rider".
The first half of hibiki series is really good, the later half totally lost direction. Ending is the worst among KR series IMO.

Now still watching first half, before Epi 30...read about the series in Wikipedia (helped clean up some of the sections too)...there was a sudden change in production staff, resulting in a screwed up second half. Even the actors themselves hate the results, and ending of the series. [-X

Well, gotta see for myself how screwed up it becomes. But right now, HIbiki is a good watch indeed. :thinking:

The story really collapses after around episode 30...Akira doesn't want to be an Oni suddenly!? Ibuki suddenly becoming a pussy!? Makamou so strong that to finish one, it spans a few episodes (confirm it's for budget reasons)!? And what's with the introduction of Kiriya? They can actually do without him...

Well, guess it's just 7 episodes left...plus 1 movie...I should hang on...

Edit: Watched episode 45...the only episode in the latter half of the series that's a must-watch...talk about the bond between master and disciple...

Finished Hibiki at long last! The ending...feeling neutral about it, but still feeling anal about Asumu not becoming an Oni, and Kiriya becoming one.

i agree with you all,hibiki was reli cool on its own,but its not a rider series at all..they should have make it a stand alone series,like garo...i dun reli fancy old skool kamen riders,excet kamen rider black RX...prefer blade for its story line,blade for its cool props and den-oh,for its refreshing storyline...and dun reli like ryuki cuz they dun look like kamen riders at all..

True...actually, Hibiki wasn't meant to be in the Kamen Rider line initially, but was added in at the last minute (in fact, Hibiki has been involved in a whole lot of 'last minute's). Well, as someone has mentioned before, Hibiki isn't much of a 'Rider' series, since they dun really feature them on bikes, and they dun even get specially customized bikes too.

Blade is really good halfway through...the start of the series made me real skeptical about watching it (plus the crap dubbing on Kids Central). As for Den-O, I like it for its humour (many people hate it though), and the way they slowly build up the story to become more and more serious despite the senseless humour is simply marvelous too. Oh yeah, and there's the colorful (literally and figuratively) characters too. :supz:

And same here, I have never watched Ryuki, firstly: HK subs stinks. Secondly: too many Riders, just makes me feel it's a commercial gimmick. Lastly: the screeching sound whenever the Mirror monsters appear gets on my nerves. :red:

Finished Agito...pretty good series...

Like the main Rider, Tsugami Shouichi...very cheerful...and HIkawa Makoto, very ditzy, like many of the recent main riders...

But feeling sorry for the character of Ashihara Ryou...think he's jinxed or something...doomed to be single for his life, I think...:(

Been watching Ryuki, finally to the point of Ryuki Survive's appearance.

Is it just me, or are there people who, same as me, prefer Ryuki in his usual/normal form than his Survive form? :D

Yo bro...you gotta stick to Den-O...you've only watched to the appearance of Zeronos!!! The storyline is just going to pick up from there!!! :bang:

Kabuto too serious to my liking...I still like Faiz best, then Blade...and now Den-O (gotta see how the ending is before I decide I like which one better between Blade :D )

Just finished Ryuki.

The feeling after watching the ending...how to put it...it's like I've wasted all 48.5 episodes in between...

But still, pretty good writing on the characters themselves (not the plot though).

i must admit that i totally condemned this toku fm e veri start.

it was disappointing - kiddish n a wimpy rider in Ryotaro Nogami. (i expect more in a rider after watchin e previous). hwever, e series built up in its plot n character development in Ryotaro subsequently.

e 4 main imagins - Momotaros, Urataros, Kintaros n Ryutaros added depth in this series as it went on.

overall another great toku towards e end. :thumbsup:
