I just like to ask some people.

Becuase I everytime heard young people saiding that they think singapore sucks and etc. And that they want to go oversea to stay becuase they are not given freedom and etc.

But do you ever think that Singapore is a better place to live in?

ok. I compain about Singapore at times. But when I travel oversea I seen other people's ways and laws. Makes me think that Singapore is a pretty fine and safe place to live in. Work, have to work hard to get it.

In Singapore, we do not face racist and etc.

And just really want to know what is the real reason for the young people in thinking on going oversea to stay just becuase Singapore sucks?

If we go oversea to stay and live, we mostly likely will not get a job at there. I had family friend that went to oversea to stay, can not find a job for a year plus.

May be if you want to go oversea to work, keep the Singapore passport and Pink IC or Blue IC (anything which is Singapore). Any thing happen in the oversea, there is a home to go to.

Coz wat we earn is only enough to survive and not really enough to play in singapore.... Basically, it boils down to money. If you can afford the standard of living here, it's all fine and dandy...

But if you are like those bottom 20% income earners, with no water, no electricity, living on biscuits...than I do not think you would be saying it would be so marvelous...

But you still have to work hard for it, right? Money do not come down from heaven.

Work hard, Play hard.

If you have the Talent, Show it... Singapore have started on talents stuff like Noise Singapore for the youngs, UOB, Singapore Young Photographer and etc. Talent is mostly back into building up.

Singapore is a good place to grow up, especially when we are starting to open up to more interesting things / views in recent years. But when we grow old, things may change, as this may not be the best place to retire especially if you are the normal wage worker.

When we travel overseas, we see the kind of society people have and think that it is a good place to be in, but tend to forget that the view is in terms of a traveller. Some people regret after migration as they did not find out enough about the country they migrate to.

LA is right, if in SG, you think that finding a job is difficult because of the influx of foreigners, than what about China? They practically have to compete with each other so much that there are 1000 people fighting for one single post. Their students gets worried even when they are still studying.

But one thing about racism, it exist everywhere and there is no way to avoid it. Just that the situation is worse off in other countries. Most of us are still able to accept each other and work together in peace :)

but i know in reality,its a really hard place to survive.If im given a chance to reside there a few years..im satisfied liao.
its more of exploring the world outside to me.

Well, i am just too plain lazy for changes. Safe environment here. Decisions taken care of for u by those with elite academic results. In sg, u have gd education, u have a nice path for you. Provided u take it lah.

But whats the side effects for this? One day, its ppl will eventually be tired of this "nanny" stlye of being spoon feed in our life. They will "rebel" and ask for more. More freedom, more rights, more this more that. MOST human are born greedy i say. Probably due to the environment we grow up in.
In sg, without money u cant do much. Look at those bottom 20% earners in sg. They are really surviving by the day, no joke. Then look at those at the top 20%. Well sheltered, well fed, well clothed.
Thats 40% of the ppl in sg.
BUT if we going to look at the 21%-40% ppl, they are the most "jialat". They arent branded poor by the "ppl up there"(so no special benefits for them), but neither are they having a gd time.

Hmmm, after reading this thread, I feel quite weird now.

Like LA, I do complain that staying in Singapore can be very restricted and boring.

But is Singapore really THAT bad until youngster really wants to go overseas and stay over there?

I mean they say that overseas are much better than living in Singapore, but I think otherwise, because Singapore has low crime rate and honest gov, until some other parts. But are you aware that, Singapore somehow is actually hasn't that expensive to live in as compare as to those over in europe? Which comes to it, what youngsters want?

On a serious note, the above is a stern reminder that the govt will not take care of you when you are old, the onus is all on you and your family, you be damn if you dun buy life insurance, lead a healthy life style and so on. Plan early, die sweetly, less trouble for everybody.

Anyway, when you hear people say they want to move overseas or watever, mostly those are losers who dun have the critieria to move.

Those capable ones dun go ard saying they intent to, they will just migrate and carry on with their life. Besides why do you think so many grads try to get into investment banks and consulting firms, other than the ostentatious value, its the best ticket to international mobility.

The Cost of living in other place is high too not only singapore.


If you want more money, the only thing is to work hard.

I'm not getting worked up or anything. It's just that Younger Singaporeans just dunno how is it like out there. I am not THAT old also but I'm sure I've seen a lot for my age. You will never be happy if you are not contented. Be happy with what you are having, you should be anyway.

Actually its a mix of feelings for NS. Majority does not look forward to it at the age of 18. And the kind of NS you went through, people you meet and how they work will have an impact on how you view NS. I have friends who detest it to the max, because they work with people who do not work and are very negative. Personally I enjoyed it because of the people I work with :supz: Same goes for our working life right? :)

Viewing a country as a tourist point of view or a citizen point of view is very different, and most of the time, we still fall back and stay in SG.

No doubt our cost of living as increased, but look at European countries or the nearer Austrialia, the tax is so high because you are paying social security for those who are not working and also paying in advance so that the govt will take care of you when you grow old. But now they don't have enough money to take care of the aging population and may stop all these incentives. Its still not bad over here. :)

dont think you know alot about any mog country, it's not what you see on TV.

I do not believe the old man's contributions is that great. Because the fact Singapore is smack in a vital a shipping lane of ASEAN (which Thais have no $$$ to built something like the suez canal), a airport/airbase stop point and already a leader in enconmic,business and trade of asia during the post WW2 war years.

He borrowed billion from IMF to develope Singapore infarstucture(IMF will cry if Singapore is like Christmas Island as forever IOU). Paid back IMF ASAP using the people's $$$ (CPF,taxpayer,road,etc taxes and other methods). Now at 82 years old somemore still cannot let his son run the show (puppet master), somemore aiming live longer (to see poor Singaporean suffer to be "a 100 year old man or steel") Hope he be come a vegetatable ASAP and suffer till 120 years old then die as the "party" clumble before him also can.

OT: The Jap girls I saw a few years ago is really not so nice on the average. But things have change, now they seem to have spent much more money on personal grooming, and basically if you walk on the streets, take a stone and randomly throw behind, you wil hit a 美女, confirm :whistling
