This holiday is no holiday
SINGAPORE : Singaporeans will go to the polls on Saturday, May 6, which will now also be a public holiday.
Nomination Day is on Thursday, April 27.
Earlier on Thursday, President S R Nathan, on the advice of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, dissolved Parliament, paving the way for the polls.
This election will be Mr Lee's first as Prime Minister.
He took over the post from Goh Chok Tong in August 2004, having been deputy prime minister since 1990.
The ruling People's Action Party now controls all but two of the 84 seats in Parliament.
A government statement has listed 9 nomination centres.
They are Admiralty Secondary School, Bedok View Secondary School, Bendemeer Primary School, Bukit Panjang Government High School, Fajar Secondary School, Jurong Junior College, Ngee Ann Secondary School, Pei Chun Public School and Tao Nan School.
Candidates will have to turn up with the necessary election documents between 11am and 12noon on Nomination Day.
Admiralty Secondary School will be the Nomination Centre for Nee Soon Central, Nee Soon East and Sembawang GRC and Bedok View Secondary, for East Coast and Pasir Ris-Punggol GRCs.
Candidates for Potong Pasir and Jalan Besar and Tanjong Pagar GRC will file their papers at Bendemeer Primary School.
For Chua Chu Kang and Hong Kah GRC, it is at Bukit Panjang Government High School.
Fajar Secondary School is the nomination centre for Bukit Panjang and Holland-Bukit Timah divisions while Jurong and West Coast GRCs will file their papers at Jurong Junior College.
For Hougang and Tampines GRC, it is at Ngee Ann Secondary School.
Candidates for four divisions - Aljunied, Ang Mo Kio, Bishan-Toa Payoh and Yio Chu Kang - must file their papers at Pei Chun Public School.
At Tao Nan School, it will be for Joo Chiat, MacPherson and Marine Parade.
The Chief Executive Director of the People's Association, Mr Tan Boon Huat, has once again been appointed the Returning Officer.
The election deposit per candidate is $13,500.
This is 8 per cent of the total allowances payable to an MP in the preceding year, rounded to the nearest $500.
The Returning Officer has issued further details on the conduct of the General Election.
Candidates can obtain the nomination forms from the Election Department between 10am and 4pm on weekdays and from 9am to 1pm on Saturday.
He has also approved 12 symbols which candidates can use for their identity. - CNA/ch/ct

Nope. I have never vote before but I heard the tickets have serial number or what on them. And when you give your I/C, it can trace back to which ticket is give to you to vote. Not sure if it's true, but there is definately some method on the voting sheet to prove it's not fake.

i voted once, received a polling card by post stating that i needed to vote. cannot remembered if there was any serial number or not. brought the card and ic to the polling centre on that day, the officer-in-charge passed me a paper with no serial number on it. i put down the "x" and walked off.
my working day is 5days, off on saturday and sunday. based on my company regulation, if public holiday fall on a saturday, the following monday is declared off too.
hopefully HR will inform us that we are given off on monday since it is announced that election day is a public holiday....

Wah, your place confirmed maintained in good condition.
Whether the vote can be tracked or not doesn't bother me. I am not any prominent figure that will be worried if they will be marked. Nothing to gain, nothing to lose
Actually this Steve Chia recently said that for the elections he went through, the votes will not be tracked. They are more concerned to know percentage as a lot than as an individual. Its more useful for coming out with statistics.

hehe.. my house at tampinese.. but i cannot vote.. =P
just now downstairs got hear the pple toking.. but i bo chap.. Too lazy to go down and see.. another flat blocked my view .. =(
I went to see CCK area rallys (both PAP) one was near the phoneix (dun know right or wrong) LRT sataion. I was rather late as but see the evils of PAP celebrating Mother's day by giving out flower and lucky draw gift. (dun see that in oppsition, beware gifts now payments lates are great)
(what i saw on TV)
It disgust me to see police and barriers set up to "pervent" public to get closer to the oppsition rally and policeman do their "duties". While PAP rallies are barrier free and policeman free. (terrorist like that)
My say is oppsitons are no animals/crimnals which need barriers and policeman! The gifts given out by PAP is from whose pocket? (taxpayers or "sponsered" again) White uniforms of the PAP during rally is very funny looking on our darker Indian friends. =))

OT a bit: I wondering why only PAP candidates can do the "stunt" like shaking the publics' hands in MRT station (happen 2 times laio). I remember the SMART has polices that it is a netural ground where even flag day student with coin tin asking for donation can do it in MRT station. (donations are bigger than stupid politics in my book) I thinking of complaining to SMART for being double standard and no blackbone.:whistling Think the time wasted in handshakes when you trying to go to work.:|
