JSA inker Keith Champagne has revealed that he is writing and inking issues #78-80 of the series.
While Champage made his name in the industry as an inker, he began moving into writing in the last few years, with a Legion story for DC, as well as co-creating and writing Armor X, publihsed by Image.
“For anyone interested, my next writing project isn't a project, per se, but rather a fill-in arc on the JSA. I am writing (and inking) #78-80, subtitled LOST AND FOUND, which ties into Days of Vengeance and Infinite Crisis.
“So far, I've finished writing the first two and should start on the third issue next week. Don Kramer returns for pencilling duties. It's too early to go into story details or featured characters but I hope everyone who reads it thinks it's 'so cool'. It's important to note that in no way is Geoff Johns leaving the book permanently. This arc picks up previously established plotlines and is designed to give Geoff breathing room while he works on Infinite Crisis.
“After that, I have more writing work tentatively lined up at DC, as well as the next Armor X series and a new creator-owned book called Butterfly Samurai.
“I'm having more fun now than ever before in my eleven years in comics.

As mentioned, long-time JSA writer Geoff Johns is still on board the title. Despite having announced that he is leaving The Flash, he is still the writer of Green Lantern, JSA: Classified, Teen Titans (although Gail Simone and Rob Liefeld are jumping on board for a two-issue guest-stint in August), JLA (#115-119 with Allan Heinberg) and of course, DC’s Infinite Crisis later this year.
The writer confirmed this on his forums:
“Hey, guys --
”A heads up!
”BLACK VENEGANCE finishes up in issue 75. Then an OMAC pays the JSA a visit in 76, which reveals the fate of one of our cast. And Alan Scott and Hal Jordan team up in 77 to help a character called Airwave!
”After that, I'll be stepping down from JSA temporarily for a three-issue story ("Lost and Found" - 78 thru 80) while I finish up Infinite Crisis and JSA Classified 1 thru 4.
”The book will continue with subplots we started and character evolutions as it dives into Crisis during "Lost and Found." I've spoken with the guest-writer (see below) and he's weaved it into the monthly. It's NOT a fill-in, it'll actually impact the book. I'll be back to kick it into high gear with issue 81.
”This is the last break I'm taking for Crisis, then it's JSA, TEEN TITANS and GREEN LANTERN as we move into 2006.
”There are things brewing for 2006 that will dramatically effect the JSA team in terms of membership, character and storylines. You will see new villains, classic villains, realtionship shake-ups and some reimagined JSAers.
”So, welcome our inker - Keith Champagne - as he takes over the writing chores for "Lost and Found." I think you'll like what he's got in store. And if you're reading ARMOR X, you know he's the real deal.
”Thanks for sticking with JSA,
”Geoff”
