NEWS from STARHUB CABLE:
dont know if this is good news or bad....
Starhub announce that all 60 matches for the wourld cup will be PPV so it would not affect the other sports channel sub, thus no increase in price of the channel.
those not sub to PPV, will get to watch the first 8 match & the final on the normal sport channel.
:D
Of course this is no good, that means we have to pay extra just to watch these matches even though we subscribe to sport channel cable tv, not going to buy this kind of nonsense.

StarHub Brings World Cup Fever to Singapore
· All 64 World Cup matches available on four dedicated channels as a Pay-Per-View package
· Extensive World Cup content across cable, mobile and online platforms will take viewers to the heart of the action
Singapore, 27 March 2006 – StarHub, the official broadcaster of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, is proud to bring viewers all the colourful and spectacular moments of the world’s favourite game ‘live’ from Germany. Fans can immerse themselves in the World Cup action through ‘live’ matches and exclusive programmes via StarHub Digital Cable, and also gain instant access to the latest World Cup highlights via StarHub’s mobile and online platforms.
The 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ will kick off in Munich, with host Germany taking on Costa Rica in the opening match on 10 June 2006. Watch Germany's Player of the Year Michael Ballack in possibly one of his last appearances in front of his home fans at Munich’s Allianz Arena. Having scored the winning goals in both the quarter-final and semi-final of the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan™, the Bayern Munich midfielder will be expected to carry Germany to the finals again.
With StarHub’s new World Cup PlayerCam channels (StarHub Channels 110 and 111), football fans in Singapore will be able to join the 66,000-strong crowd at Allianz Arena in tracking the performance of key players like Ballack. The World Cup PlayerCam channels offer dedicated coverage of players from both teams, and will take viewers even closer to their favourite football stars as the drama of the World Cup unfolds.
Ms Tham Loke Kheng, Senior Vice President for Marketing and Content at StarHub enthused, “We want to bring our local audiences to the heart of the sporting action in Germany, and to do so, we have lined up exclusive programming built around the games. No longer is the World Cup just about the ‘live’ telecast of the matches.”
“Interviews with the coaches and key players will proffer insights. Press conferences will throw up new revelations. Match analyses will dissect crucial moments of the game, while extended stadium material and additional ‘Player’ and ‘Tactical’ feeds will certainly lend an added dimension to the games. This is the immersive World Cup experience that StarHub Digital Cable has to offer,” said Ms Tham.
Special early bird discounted price for StarHub Digital Cable’s Sports Group customers
The 2006 FIFA World Cup™ will be offered on StarHub Digital Cable as a Pay-Per-View package (“2006 FIFA World Cup™ Pay-Per-View”) via four dedicated channels. Existing customers of StarHub Digital Cable’s Sports Group[1] who wish to subscribe to 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Pay-Per-View only need to pay a one-time flat fee to receive the full coverage of all 64 World Cup matches ‘live’. Those who sign up by 30 April 2006 will enjoy a special early bird discounted price of $10.50 (with GST). The package will be priced at $15.75 (with GST) from 1 May 2006 onwards.
On StarHub’s decision to launch the World Cup on a Pay-Per-View platform, Ms Tham explained, “The costs of acquiring the telecast rights for virtually all sports programming have escalated over the years. StarHub’s Pay-Per-View platform gives us the flexibility to offer soccer fans additional sports content like the World Cup as and when the event takes place, without increasing the costs to all our Sports Group subscribers in general.”
“All 64 matches will be made available ‘live’ to our Sports Group customers for only $10.50[2], which works out to less than 20 cents a match. For a little more than the cost of watching just one movie in the cinemas, our customers can now enjoy the passion and vibrancy of the games, as told by six of the world’s best football directors, in a World Cup story spanning an entire month,” Ms Tham added.
Customers of StarHub Digital Cable who want to enjoy 56 ‘live’ and eight delayed World Cup matches without subscribing to the Sports Group will be able to do so via 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Pay-Per-View for a one-time flat fee of $26.25 (with GST).
Existing customers can purchase the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Pay-Per-View package from 28 March 2006 onwards by submitting a form online at www.starhub.com/worldcup, faxing in their orders to 6725-2112, or calling 1633 to follow a simple step-by-step sign-up process.
A separate 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Pay-Per-View package for corporate customers is also available. Interested parties can contact 1800-888-8888 for details.
Catch the excitement and intensity on four World Cup channels
The four dedicated World Cup channels offered on 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Pay-Per-View include:
World Cup Premium (StarHub Channel 27)
As the main World Cup channel, World Cup Premium will air the ‘live’ telecast of 56 matches, and the delayed telecast of the remaining eight simulcast matches. The channel will also air the primetime repeats of all matches, as well as pre- and post-match features and daily match highlights. The pre-match segments will include all the build–ups to the big game, with team line-ups, player arrivals and behind-the-scenes footage, while the half-time and full-time shows will feature match highlights, statistics, and the analysis of key events and players.
World Cup Tactical (StarHub Channel 28)
World Cup Tactical will offer viewers a ‘bird’s-eye-view’ of the pitch during ‘live’ telecasts, and a running commentary on the tactical developments of both teams, allowing crucial moments to be analysed. The channel will also air post-match interviews and press conferences to give viewers a greater insight into the reactions from the players and coaches.
World Cup PlayerCam A (StarHub Channel 110) and World Cup PlayerCam B (StarHub Channel 111)
The two PlayerCam channels offer dedicated coverage of players from both teams throughout each match. The position and movements of a single player will be tracked at any one time. Different players will be featured during 15-minute intervals, and not more than three players from each team will be featured during each match. The players to be featured are pre-selected and made known to broadcasters before the start of the match.
StarHub will air a total of 56 matches ‘live’ on World Cup Premium (StarHub Channel 27), and eight simultaneously televised (“simulcast”) matches ‘live’ on another channel, SuperSports (StarHub Channel 22). 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Pay-Per-View customers who are not Sports Group subscribers will not miss out on the action of the eight ‘live’ simulcast matches that will be shown on SuperSports as World Cup Premium will air a delayed telecast of these matches too. In addition, 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Pay-Per-View customers who are unable to catch the ‘live’ telecasts of any of the World Cup matches can look forward to primetime encore telecasts on the same evening.
All 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Pay-Per-View customers using a digital set-top box will be able to enjoy all four World Cup channels, while customers using an analogue set-top box will be able to enjoy the World Cup Premium and World Cup Tactical channels.
Instant access to World Cup highlights for StarHub Mobile customers!
To complement the ‘live’ soccer action on StarHub Digital Cable, StarHub will offer exciting World Cup content across its mobile and online platforms.
Ms Tham said, “We understand that many football diehards are busy professionals on-the-go who may not be able to catch all the matches on television. To ensure that these fans do not miss out on the exciting World Cup action, StarHub will air a primetime encore telecast of all matches. In addition, we will offer ‘live’ updates on the World Cup via StarHub Mobile for a nominal fee. When you hear the jubilant cheers of a passer-by during World Cup season, it could well be because he just received news on his mobile phone, telling him that his favourite team won!”
StarHub’s post-paid mobile customers can obtain up-to-date World Cup news, results and schedules throughout the entire World Cup competition for a one-off subscription fee of $6.30 (with GST) by SMSing ‘WC ON’ to 2006.
Both StarHub’s post-paid and pre-paid customers who wish to make a one-time request[3] for the latest World Cup news, results or schedules, can do so by SMSing ‘WC N’ to 2006 for news, ‘WC R’ for results, and ‘WC S’ for schedules.
In addition, StarHub’s Gee! Mobile subscribers can access a multitude of World Cup content by selecting ‘World Cup 2006’ from the Gee! Menu[4] on their StarHub mobile phones.
Soccer fans can also take part in contests, polls or share their opinions on the World Cup on online forums by visiting StarHub’s World Cup website at www.starhub.com/worldcup. The site offers the latest World Cup news, beautiful wallpaper downloads, interesting World Cup features, team profiles, match fixtures, telecast schedules and more!

I dun think some kopitaim will show the world cup match at their place as they maybe calculative over the PPV matches. I think some may resort to increase in the drink price.
