Story or art?

Which do you think is more important in a comic, a good story or eye catching art? Of course to have both would be ideal but most of the time it's only one or the other. For me I think story is more important. No doubt art is what catches people's attention at first glance but without a good story to substain it, the comic will looses steam very fast and very soon you'll lose interest. A very good example is Image titles in their early days. On the other hand, if the story is really good, you'll be hooked and can't wait to get your hands on the next issue and thus will be able to substain your interest for a long time. For example, Green Arrow by Kevin Smith and Powers by Michael Oeming, both have sucky art but the stories are really good. What do you guys think?

art is important for catching readers first attention and leaving good ompression but good sstory make them stay ...
so i think bith are important...art to add excitement to reader, story to attract reader to keep readin it... :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

initially it was art for me. till i seen alot of clones and got disillusion by it. that was when i start to pick up stories. some of the comics stories are very engaging. but definitely story holds me better than art. however if the art is good, i consider it a bonus

It's a tough call...

...Sojourn (the entire run): gorgeous artwork but simple story.
...JLA (the recent JLA vs Crime Syndicate of Amerika): cool story with half-hearted artwork (how fast did this guy drew this thing?)

Although I value story a lot, I'd say most would go for the artwork. The human mind is far more receptive to cool eye candy.

Although I don't read English comics, but for comics its pretty straightforward for me, Art than Story :)

Good story and poor art makes me feel cheated :bang:
