Anticipating a great demand for the revelation of the possible identity of the Winter Soldier in last week’s Captain America #6, Marvel has already prepared their latest “Limited Edition Variant Cover” reprint of the issue, and it will be in stores on June 22nd.

"I've just been overwhelmed by the response to Captain America so far, and with issue #6, that just went through the roof," said series writer Ed Brubaker in an announcement. "And the best thing about it is that I know where this is all going, and that Steve Epting and I have a great ride in store for the fans. I've been hearing from retailers all over the country who are telling me they're adding Cap to more customers' lists every month, and that's really gratifying to hear. So, with that in mind, I'm psyched to see the second print of issue #6 with Steve's brilliant flip variation on the original cover. I can't wait to have both issues myself!"

"We knew from a storytelling point of view that Cap #6 would probably be an under-ordered title once word got out about the identity of the Winter Soldier,” said Marvel Director of Sales David Gabriel. “So in anticipation of the demand, we had Steve Epting do up a second cover, mirroring the image on the initial printing but focusing on the Winter Soldier, so that we'd have it ready to roll out shortly after the issue hit the stands. For obvious reasons, we could not reveal the cover image any earlier, or the story would have been ruined."

For more on Brubaker’s thoughts the possible identity of Winter Soldier, check out our recent post Captain America #6 interview (http://www.newsarama.com/marvelnew/CapAmerica/Cap06.htm) with him.

Pick up this title, it is quite a good read. Usually for Cap A, I would pass up the story as most time, it is just campy. But the current story got me interested. As the new villian of Cap could be a certain side kick of his(closely mirroring the storyline of Batman Hush). The story is just starting to pick up pace, if you can do try to pick up the back issue. This could be Marvel under-rated title of 2005 given the fact that Cap is one of the main icons of Marvel.

Let's see, Cap's former sidekicks includes Bucky, Rick Jones, Falcon, Nomad, Battlestar....anymore? How come Bucky is still so young, I tot he should be at least be in his 70s since he was Cap's sidekick in WW2? Unlike Cap, who has been frozen in ice and a Super Soldier, Bucky is just a normal teen.

hmmm, you got a list of usual suspects.

And my bets on Bucky to be the rat. I think he could be the perfect alter-ego of Cap. Knowing Cap's habits and routine inside out. They could squeeze in a back story on how Bucky went to hell and back and got some enhancement or such.(but it would be too cliche lor, too convenient). But that's my take on suspects. What do you think?

I also think that it's Bucky as the mask is a dead giveaway unless it's someone impersonating him. From the cover his arm kinda looks like cybernetic. Could someone rebuilt him like into a cyborg? He could explain his youthfulness.

JOURNEY INTO COMICS( WINTER SOLDIER - IS HE OR ISN'T HE?)
by Michael San Giacomo

SPOILER WARNING

Now, I’m naturally a suspicious kind of guy. But this Marvel solicitation for Captain America No. 8 leaves little room for doubt that the first Bucky is in fact The Winter Soldier. I don’t see any "allegedly" or "apparently" in there. It looks pretty rock solid.

Winter comes early to (Captain) America …
The revelation of who killed the Red Skull has rocked Captain America’s world to the core. Cap must track down the Winter Soldier- the alias now used by his former partner, Bucky. And, in the wake of Bucky’s dramatic return from the grave, General Lukin makes his first all-out assault! Brubaker and company are crafting a tale that many regard as the greatest run on Captain America in modern times. To commemorate the start of this explosive second arc, there will be a limited variant cover by fan favorite Joe Jusko!

"THE WINTER SOLDIER" Part 1 (of 6)
Do I believe it? Not on your life. Nope, you can fool me a couple hundred times, but eventually I catch on.

I’m sure there are 100 ways to get out of reviving the one (of two) characters that seemed to be the only Marvel characters destined to stay dead. The other is Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben. (He’s still dead, right?)

But if it’s true, the way Ed Brubaker pulled off the resurrection is brilliant: back in WW II, a Russian finds the badly wounded Buckster, nurses him back to health and then something, something, something. He returns with a robot arm and barely aged.

Depending on what Brubaker does with the rest of the story, particularly that something part, this could work.

I always thought that I would be disappointed if Marvel ever dared to resurrect Bucky. But now that it may have happened, (and I am still not convinced,) I find that it ain’t so bad. I think I was more chagrined when Colossus returned recently with "not so much as a by your leave."

And really, considering that Jean Grey has been revived, what 198 times, isn’t it hard to take any Marvel death seriously?

Still, if Brubaker is serious, this could be a great character, a powerful adversary for Cap.

The same argument goes for DC and the recent rebirth of Jason Todd, (Robin II) though I am just as skeptical on that revival as this one.

I must confess I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the way the "Ice" story was handled in Captain America. It seemed as if it were about to be revealed that Cap was kept in suspended animation (perhaps even put there) by the American government because they knew he would object to the atomic bombings of Japan.

But before the truth was revealed, the story deteriorated into a confusing mess. That was a cheap way to make sure that the legend of Cap, his storyline more precisely, would remain exactly as it was found.

That is one way to make sure that nothing ever grows. It’s called stagnation.

i read the current vol of captain america and i must said its a good read from the stables of Marvels comics. Pick the back issues up before they are all gone from the stands.

If Marvel was smart enough they could do a Captain America in the mould of Batman Year one. and completely give Cap the proper remake due. Marvels screws their characters up and not properly developing them into something with a deep history liked Batman.
