Juventus 0 Arsenal 0

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f237/SiR09/nedvedoff_lg.jpg

My Match Notes: Arsenal tried to play their football for most parts of the game but defended deep on occasions. Senderos was doing very well at the back for the Gunners as is Eboue. Pavel Nedved was easily the most aggressive player of the match. Pires was waiting for a Ljungberg cross twice towards the end of the game. Lehmann made some good saves and Trezeguet had some half-chances.

Not an impressive job but Arsenal progress. I think it should be Villarreal?

2 main factors. 1) They had a 2 goals cushion. Got chance then score, dun have just play the ball around. 2) Away factor. Juventus' home record is a fact.

I think this has got to be one of the more important matches for arsenal this season. Not only because of the semi berth to play for, but rather we have saw the defensively side of Arsenal Team growing stronger from game to game this morning.

Arsenal has been playing Total football recently. Defending together and attacking in numbers. I feel It's not because Juve played badly, they had a few close chances but rather arsenal was defensively at the top of the game and with a 2 goal advantage before hand, the match was for them to lose.

My MOM: Jens Lehmann

A deserving win for ManU, AW plan to rest Henry just blackfired, although coming on later in the game, he couldn't conjure any shot on goal as Arsenal tired legs crawl on.

My match analysis: Man Utd played with more gusto for the better part of the match and were generally quicker to the ball. One Toure handball incident. Lehmann made some saves as did Van De Saar. Two goals to the good even the three subsitutions made by Wenger was a case of too little, too late. Gilberto was playing too many casual short passes. Flamini played his heart out. For the Park JS first EPL goal, I could see an Arsenal player walking back! *duh*

Better fortune in UEFA Champions League perhaps :)

Match Comments: A slender lead goal scored by Kolo Toure (first goal this season I believe). Generally Arsenal outplayed Villarrreal who could not get out of second gear to their usual performance. There were some play-acting and over reaction from the visitors (5 yellow cards for them). I thought Flamini worked his socks off and the one-two passes between Eboue and Hleb was effective. Hleb in particular drew a few fouls with his improving mazey runs. Good game Arsenal. Next stop Stadium El Madrigal.

The Villareal match is quite a challenging one for the gunners i feel, Hopefully it's beautiful football at play, not divings and play actings.

Match Comments: It was Villarreal who dominated most parts of the game but they didn't take make it count, Franco in particular missed quite a few chances. Arsenal was not really playing football at all from the 30 - 75 minutes, but started to come alive towards the end of the game. The 89th minute penalty was wrongly awarded and Lehmann (MOM) saved yet again - from Riquelme, having already saved a few crucial attempts before. "Yellow Submarine" was sunk, but the low point was in their theatrics and hit-the-turf to your advantage behaviour, which gave dirty football an added meaning in european football. Still, Arsenal progress to 17 May 2006, their first ever European Cup Final

My worst thoughs come true, when Villarreal started to look like they wasn't going to score any goals from open play, they resorted to theatrical acts, Had Villarreal gone through on that Riquelme penalty, it would have been harsh on Arsenal. In the end, it was Luck and grit that gifted the Arsenal team the ticket to the final. Finally a :salute: to Jehs lehmann. Go Gunners!
