here's some bantering to maybe generate some points or discussion
i have seen lots of original art for sale or bid in ebay and have yet to seen one from asian. It would be terrific for fans to own a piece of the artiste pencil art. for me i hope to own some original arts done by my favourite wonder woman artist: Adam Hughes. Or Jim lee's art. but how come we don't get to own original arts of say : LONG HU MEN, Naruto or likewise. It would be really cool to grace our living room halls with original comic arts
here's my favourite artist and comic heroine. by the way, the closing bid for this art was an estimate USD 700 at ebay.

I moved this to general discussions ;)
For original art, I guess its the most sought after by comic readers no matter what kind of comic you are reading. Even if its just a few pencil storkes, I will still treat it as treasure.
I didn't know that they have those for sale in ebay, but how are they verified from the author since signatures and art can be forged?
For HK comics, artwork are not sold except maybe among readers who got them from the artist. The only execption I saw in recent years is by Jade Dynasty, but I think its the only one time with a few peices of work and of course the reason is not for money, cant really remember the purpose.
Other times, a reader may write a letter in which will appear in those "author's mailbox" column every week. Best letter will get an original artwork from the artist. Other cases, you may write in directly to the artist and request for one, but its usually a very long wait of maybe a year, depending on the artist schedule. Also, not all artists will do that as other readers will start to follow suit and they cant afford the time to draw.
So most of the time, you get a self-protrait printed card with signature. I got one about 10 years back from Tony Wong by sending in letter :hello:

yeah, same for me too, normally i would keep the original and frame it up for display.that is provided i have one myself.
In the states. there seem to be a thriving market. seen fierce bidding for original art especially those from the comics itself. these are normally more expensive that those drawn outside by the artist. there was once i seen a rare art page from Jim Lee's batman: hush storyline. Wah, that page closing bid was about USD 900 furthermore it does not even have any Batman in it lor.
I bet Asian artist do not sell the original page from the comics itself. maybe there should do that to generate more interest.

Maybe its the culture of readers that's different. For collecter items, we now what people in the states may do. But in Asia context, although they treat the work with respect, maybe they would just sell it off for a good profit, so artists are very careful in allowing their original works to be flowing in public. :salute:
