I never really tot abt this too. Its just been always so.

But its not any anniversary or festive season, yet they are giving this 20% for us members lor. No complains lor. The $22 is really worth it.:salute:

Just the right time because there jap movies like Death Note and Sinking in Japan coming showing, so merchandise must be quite popular. Death Note goods are now on the prominent shelves in Kino and read that even comics are sold out.

Maybe its to counter and pull the crowd from all other bookstores during weekend. If discount also include weekdays, than customers can go to their competitors during weekends. :thinking:

I guess normally on weekends the sales are much more compared to those of weekdays. Moreover most consumers are also working on weekdays. Therefore having sales on weekends would make it available to most people and also to further boost purchases? Just a guess.

nope, they doesn't offer such priviledge

If u have lots of stuff to buy on that day, u may applies the member card first and later make payment after receiving the temp discount card lor...

when the card was 1st introduced, my friends and i were able to share a card and make purchases with cash/NETS. But during the 2nd~3rd members' sales+normal days discount, we can no longer make puchases with my friend's card when paying by NETS. cash still can smoke through.:shooting:

IMO the card's not really that useful unless you buy all your books from kino. The public's 20%discount usually comes 1~2wks after the members' discount and so far there's no books on discount exclusively to members' yet.:beatup:

hmm... I dun remember facing such a problem when i was sharing 1 member card with hades...:thinking:

Btw luvey, i think this Kinokuniya membership comes handy if u collect more of tw version manga, japanese books/mags or illustration books.
The tw version manga after 20% can be so cheap that i believe it can be the cheapest in town. For the NT85, after 20% its abt $5 only.
Then the japanese book/mags or those illustration books, i think Kino brings them in more than any other local bookstores.

But if your purchase is more of local CY manga and reading materials that can be easily found in Popular, then i think this $21 might not be ideal for u. Its more for hardcore manga collectors bah. Sometimes i go oneshot can get $60+ of tw manga. Then 1 illustration bk will cost abt $50+ before 20% liaoz. So this 20% comes impt liaoz.
So its really on individuals liaoz.

Hmm actually I don't frequent Kino so much as their books are rather pricey. However many times when I made a rough search for a particular book I want, Kino seems to be the only big bookstore (other than Popular, MPH, Borders, Times...) that holds my book.

Heh in fact I was tempted to apply for the membership because of the other privileges that come with it, namely coffee club 10% discount and 10% off for Book Council courses. If they are not so strict about card transfer, maybe it might be more worth it if I can use friends' cards.

U can always transfer yr card to yr fren, they never bother to check who is the ownership for that card. I always lent it to my brother but nothing happen leh...

Perhaps Dio's case is special as he directly pass it to his fren behind after he purchased his stuffs.

I also don't encounter problems using card which is not my name as the payment mode. They may have done that initially, but now it could be to much hassle so probably relaxed :)

I think it is one of the most useful member's card around if you frequently buy books or magazines. Their price is reasonable and the best is of course the wide selection of books. Even subscription to rare Jap magazines are possible. :supz:

Actually from wad I noe from industry frens, the book business profit thing not say damn steady. A lot of poor purchasing decisions, overstock, price fluctuations etc conspire to put the screws on profits. But of course efficiency varies from company to company la ...

Kino won't do that lah, if they do so, they surely gets alot of complain by customers. Or if kena check by the custom, worse come to worst, Kino will ans to the customer that they unable to bring it in even though the book is with them but already being torn.

i don't know how they do it now. but last time those picture books, their method of censoring is to tear the offensive pages. My friends bought a few and you can actually see the bits of torn parts near the spine.

Can complain to them 1. Dun buy from them lor if they still do in this way.

Got myself quite a few manga. Too bad the stock for Angel Sanctuary is out, if not i will complete my set.

K, actually this post's intention is to compliment the service of Kinokuniya.

2 encounters:

1) a few mths back, i saw a chinese book on Romance of Three Kingdom on display rack. Its written in the human mgt method. I was interested but didnt buy coz kinda broke. Went back a wk later(coz regret liaoz:P ). I cant find the book on the display rack anymore. Panic, so i went to the asian info counter and describe the book to the staff. They were abit amused by my request, of course. But their knowledge is amazing. They asked among the colleagues and found the book for me within 10mins.=D>

2) It was yesterday. I went to the Main Branch at taka. Renewed my member card also. The procedure was abit weird. I paid the fee, got a receipt and told to come back 5mins later for the new card.
5min later i went back, got the card and left happily.
When i got home, i was going thru my wallet checking how much i have left for the week. Then i realise, I FORGOT TO GET BACK THE CHANGE FOR THE KINO CARD RENEWAL!!! I gave them a $50 and got the receipt, but forgot to ask for the change.:bang:
I was home liaoz. Called them immediately. They managed to trace back for me and said i can collect it anytime today or tmr. But i was anxious liaoz, i grabbed a cab back to kino immediately, that was 8pm+ liaoz. Reached there, i was handed a sealed envelope with the $29 inside.:salute:
(I know its my own mistake...)


All these really show the good customer service a japanese company can provide.=D>
