Saw the news on TV on this issue. they have been kicking a fuss over the past 2 days. Actually it has been so many years already, I think it basically depend on how the individual views it. Some pictures in import magazines are worse off.
A comic may not have sexual artwork, but the content may have ideas that can corrupt the mind. Why do they always think of comic as bad. L-)
singaporean are known for kicking up big fuss on small issue.....esp the parents.....
these comic had been in the market for like the past 10-15 yrs??? so what's the big hu ha?
anyway, kids gotta grow up...& it's more important to teach the kid the right moral & thinking..instead of keep on banning this & that.....
it's the new century liao :bang:

Ok, story goes like this....
Monday U Chn news reported that a young girl, around 16, have been reading comics with sexual content and nude scenes. From the look, it looks very 少女漫画. After reading, she feel like doing it with her boyfriend, even wrote in diaries about her feeling.
Her mother think its very serious and make a fuss. They even ask a student to go to that rental shop (Shopname masked) to try. Than that student commented that the shop owner didnt check his age when he try to rent, he can even buy them.
Yesterday reported on the issue again, "somebody" in the comic industry for 10yrs say these might have come from Malaysia, and talk about simple things which is comon sense. IMO, he should defend the stand of comics rather than give normal comments.
These people.....

I've known this news from the TV but my bro change the channel as he wants to watch other programme :(
Only knows that the shop is available for renting of such manga but don't know what happened after that.
Rookie, thanks for explaining :D
Nowadays, the parents really bo liao, heard too much complains from them esp those aunties as well as those mid age ladies.
Nobody forced u to turns bad, just a matter that u know how to thinks or what types of lives u have gone through. Though kids r easily get influence, but when they grow older and mature esp when gets into NS. Their manterity definitely get changed..
U will even refresh back why u did all those nonsences last time and I believes most of us here had gone through this before rite :D
Last time when I was in secondary school, been influenced by frens scolding bad words esp in hokkien(u all know what I mean ah). But think about it, I feels so awful by speaking all these foul languages when I heard those students(like my age lasttime) keeps on scolding while chatting with their frens on the roadside. I can see a pass time of me which I feels quite stupid
I've changed my life since I gets into Poly. The world is different liao which is mend for adults instead of teenagers. Everything changed esp yr mind & thoughts...
Sorry for OT too much  Just my thoughts anyway

haha, almost same for me too but may not be so extreme. Now when I hear those kids say foul languages for the sake of saying, its a prick to the ear :shooting:
Many ppl are bias against comics....

As a matter of observation, i think singaporean kiddies too weak liao. both mind and body. little thing see liao, cannot refrain, must try.Last time our BMT cleaned toilet, now i've seen is contracted aunties doing the cleaning for recuits.Even saw one recruit, pulling along a duffy bag with wheels. Yes, you didn't read it wrong, with wheels.WTF
Anyway, I being reading comics for a long time liao. last time my relatives' got the old 'long hu men'. the ones that flipped on the width of the page. That series also got suggestive language and action. even got kinkily dressed nurse with upskirts. wah my young virgin mind see liao forever change. no more xiao ding dang. now is LONG HU MEN. Slowly i begin to accept that what the writer has convey may be the true reflection of our world. From there i graduated or rather demoted to japanese anime before reading the western comics liked Vertigo, Marvels and Indy.
Man, those indy western comics are even worst. Can see graphic sex of all kinds. Forbidden sex. You name it, they have it. Comparatively Asian 'soft porn' comics are alot tame (liked milk to whiskey).Fortunately i came out unscathe. I think it all boils down to the individual discretion and some parental guidance during the child upbringing.
Anyway, on to the topic, we shouldn't just used a broad brush to paint the comics in bad light. Comics is the most accessible medium to learn. Think about it, teaching sex education. unfortunately the girl can't take it liao. her primal instinct and urge overcome her.Comics actually push ideas to the fore-front and challenge us to think and question.

Haha, too bad I'm poor in my ang mo language
Only able to explain till certain limits :(
The ali baba bag that the new recruits getting now is really much more convenience comparing to the 1 we had. I myself also doesn't likes the way by carring such stupid big bag outside, damn heavy.
Now SAF becomes more and more welfare due to some incidents happening recently. They can't afford to explain to the parents if something mishap to their child. Such cases involves to many high management esp the CO and many higher rankings even though they are not the 1 who supervised during the training...
Looks like we need someone to clear up with those aunties in the news or articles that reading manga is no harm and won't be able to corrupts those teenagers mindset.
I'll definitely vote rascal_father to represent us =))

Oh his 2nd post, he is the one of the very few fren who supported this site after I send out so many invitations :D
My ang moh also cant compare lah, but all quite true, actually those who complain may have never touch a comic book their entire life, so bad to give that kind of comments to "control" all comic publications.
On the thing with ali baba bag, I was on my way back one day, saw one guy dragging it into the train in No.4. As that station is Tanah Merah, I almost want to ask if he just came back from airport...it just look so wierd. >:)

I saw this on 17Mar TODAY, dun like the caption.
Dirty comics thrive
Many dealers found selling X-rated comic books
THE authorities have conducted some 570 raids against outlets selling pornographic comics in the last two years.
According to the Media Development Authority (MDA) it has seized more than 1,400 copies of undesirable publications in these raids.
Of these publications, eight in 10 were X-rated.
However, despite the strict enforcement, X-rated comics continue to surface in Singapore.
On Tuesday, Channel NewsAsia reported that some bookstores here are selling or renting out comics containing sexually explicit content to students.
Comic dealers told CNA that these stores were willing to take the risk for a huge profit.
"In terms of profits, say for a book that costs $8, I think they (bookstores) will probably make $4. To them, that is quite a good margin," said Mr Teo, a comic book dealer.
Mr Yeo, who has been dealing in comics for 10 years, imports about 7,000 copies of comics each month.
Of these, about 5 to 10 per cent are detained by the MDA for unhealthy content.
But the stores that sell the pornographic comics are obviously bypassing such checks.
"I believe a lot of them come through the causeway from Malaysia. You are able to get the comics every day, because there are lorries coming in every day," said Mr Teo.
To help stop the trend, MDA says it will be holding regular dialogue sessions with comic book dealers and educate them on what is considered an undesirable publication. — CNA
