On 27th Aug, a mere 9 days away, Singaporeans will elect a new President. Who would you vote for and the possible reasons for doing so?
I voting the youngest Tan as I fed up with the Patrick Tan's father, the other Dr Tan with his Sentosa Cove home and that Union Tan is a stright talker and too stubborn to listen to his scare of goverment wife.......!

Why his english is too chinese standard to understand/comprehand, right? I feel his engish is far worst than the former "home" minister Wong Kan Seng.

Whether it's GE or PE, it is our responsibility to watch and read about candidates, otherwise you might as well not be a citizen.
But when it comes to voting, I would say just go with your emotions and don't be too rational. We have not reached that stage yet. I know some people will prepare a stringent checklist to determine who complies most to their requirements...like a robot.

I just find this video clip stupid and wasting time. It just killing my brain cells. Can't the uploader make a better hilarious 1 rather than inserting some stupid clips every few sec etc... It's quite irritating though...

Actually, I didn't like the clip either. I thought the TCB "Tan Tan Tan Tan" one was much better.
Tony Tan won this president election, a sad day for Singapore. A lot of spolited votes, 17% vtores did not turn up, too few oversea voters.......too many people sitting on the fence. I go cry myself to sleep now.....!

seriosuly, it is not like end of the world..... The other placses in the world is having their OWN end of the world.
We can blame the older people for voting them in. Then we just wish the older people die so we can have a change. But when our time comes, when we grow old, the next gen will just wish we die so they can have a change.
It is an never ending road.

You can also blame all the TJS and TKL supporters who wouldn't get behind the only candidate who had a snowball's chance in hell to win vs TT.

However, the PE is over. Let's wait to see how TT performing his job. Hopefully, not much big changes and any big impact. :whistling

A win is a win, nonetheless. To be fair to TJS & TKL supporters, since everyone has their own right in who to vote for, they are and should not be blamed for the result.
Singapore has voted the past weekend. Tony Tan has won the election. End of story. No use and pretty pointless to analyse the result. Now let's see what can our newly elected President do for us for the next couple of years in his term.

Hopefully , TT is not another person who likes to Roti Prata too much like Nathan .
I mean eat Roti Prata . Let's just wait and see like many others had mention .

If the stated aim of these voters was to ensure that TT didn't win, then they are indeed to be blamed for the result. Of course if their aim was simply to vote their candidate in, then that's their choice, fine.

Analysis is very important, because otherwise people will not learn from whatever mistakes were made this time round. For example, the lack of tactical voting - people need to understand the options that they had and could have exercised to achieve certain objectives, and the election result is a good, real-life case study.

Just curious.. How do the voters make their decision based on just 9 days of Presidential campaigning and media's reporting..?
For me, all the 4 may have started from different level (background). But how do the voters gauge or know whats the real capability of the candidates, if get elected as president, will they carried out what they have promise or preach..?
I am just curious...:)

Nobody can guarantee how anyone will perform when elected to office bah. That's life everywhere; you pick a fella for a job from 2 interviews, you think he's the best fit, then he turns out to be an moron on the job ... it happens.
The best we can do is to read extensively from various media sources considering always their credibility and possible agenda. Examine their track record. Look at how the candidates speak and perform "live" to get an idea of how they present themselves, whether they appear trustworthy etc etc. Digging up past history also serves to give one an idea of whether they practice what they preach.
And ultimately you have to use your brain to synthesize all this info to come to a reasoned conclusion. I had a friend (PR-trained) who didn't follow the election until the Friday before the polls and she came to what I thought was a pretty accurate assessment of character simply from reading in between the lines of the candidates' interview responses to just one issue.
